Interesting. Did not know others felt that discomfort.

My reaction depends on who is saying it. From someone that earned the hash marks I receive it in the manner intended. From anyone else it all to often takes on the habituated, politically correct nature of a 'bless you' after a sneeze and lacks sincerity.

I am comfortable with who I am and what I have done. No thanks necessary forty-five years later.

When returning home , arriving in San Fran, being carried on a stretcher and motoriZed to Naval Hosp ,, San Diego, we were forced to be carried thru a line of citizens, several thanked us, one peed on me and many cursed me.

After 6 months in San Diego Naval Hosp, I was transferred to NAS Dallas to complete my tour and for medical care at DALLAS VA.

Upon arriving in Dallas, I was pulled over by the Dallas PD, and when they found out that I was returning from combat, they beat the crap out of me right there on the side of the road. Sure they were fired, but thats the crap most of us had to put up with. And forget about going out to eat, drink or anything, THEY were waiting.

So to those that know of what I speak, WELCOME HOME BROTHER. Heaven awaits you as you spent your time in hell.

Well said SVTOTEM...I think most of us on the forum feel the same way. As a Navy Corpsman in VN I had a job to do as did all my fellow vets. I too, am proud of my past and present accomplishments. Stayed in medicine and raised a family, retired and have a beautiful MH. Well me and the bank anyway....travel well and safe journey to all.

Take a look at www.p-o-w.com/montana .....follow the directions in red under the photo.

Or google Montana Vietnam veterans memorial.

Strikes the heart dead center.

floatin doc: there are more grunts that owe their life to you and your brothers then you know.
You guys dodged the Gunships, flew around Air Data and dropped into Hot LZs with side arms only to scoop up wounded GIs and take them to Evacs.
I for one owe the Dust Off Pilots and Medics for my life.
I sincerly hope you never forget the service you performed even if you prefer not to discuss it.
You Sir are one of those that got us home.......Thank You and God Bless.......
....just another Grunt that you guys hauled off to the 91st evac.

Dick,
Well done. That brought a tear to my eye, not for me, but in knowing. Made me grab "The Book." I still cherish it. Thanks, again.

You are welcome Derek! Didn't see your post earlier as I broke my right arm (I'm righthanded) 10 days before you posted. Just now trying to get caught up on all the forums I visit.
Later friend,
DICK
