We recently spent several weeks on the Virginia coast, visiting two of our favorite FamCamps, Cheatham Annex Kings Creek RV Campground and Dam Neck Sea Mist RV Campground. There are new, very nice, RV parks at both of these locations -- Cheatham Annex should open soon as they are putting the finishing touches on the community center and cabins.
The FamCamp at Dam Neck, Sea Mist, is an outstanding facility located on the coast -- beach is less than a 100 yds from the FamCamp. This is what I find hard to believe -- the Dam Neck MWR manager does not see the need for picnic tables, grills, or fire pits (the latter is not a big issue to me). Here you have a beautiful facility with nice concrete pads and paved roads and to exclude tables and grills does not make any sense. When I questioned the manager of the FamCamp, he stated that his boss said we didn't need these items on the pads and if we wanted to cookout/eat outside, we could bring our food and drinks to the pavilion and use this area??
I would encourage all our members that frequent FamCamps to voice your opinion on Larry's U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks site.

Good morning ...
I would say when you check out of it's a weekday ... Visit the command master chiefs office and drop him a questionnaire about the fam camp .. And mention the set up there.. That as well does not make any sense to me either ...

I assume this is a local issue, as each base commander has control of his/her MWR program. 05's advice is well received.

To update this thread; the discussion forum on militarycampgrounds.us has a very good post from a Master Chief about the state of military campgrounds and his actions. He said, well, you just have to read it yourself to get the full effect.

I have to tell you the truth as I see it, not to piss you off but it's the first thoughts I had about this.

The lack of paragraphs in the post gave me more of a problem than the subject matter.

Now I will drop the matter from my mind, just as I would said have done with subject matter.

I do agree the lack of paragraphs in posts make them harder to read.

Myself, I carry my own table, for when it is needed. 3 of them in fact (Different sizes) and a 4th I only use inside the coach. (One is in/out, 2 out only)

I am not sure what a MWR is, but my guess is that it is a RV park for the use of military personnel. My questions are.....
Would one need to be
A. Active duty
B. Retired 20+ year personnel
C. Anyone who has served and been honerably discharged?
D. Have I missed something and have posed some foolish questions

There are no such thing as foolish question, but lots of foolish answers.

Here are serious answers to your questions:
A. Active Duty? Yes in most places, but not all.
B. Retired (All do not do 20+ to retire, there are also disablity retirments) Military Retirements are Military retirements and again Yes in most places but not all.
C. Any Veteran? Not that I am aware of, but there may be some as I have not looked at them all.
D. I already answered this one.
E. Some locations also accept Current Civilian DOD Employees and retirees, I have seen one that only personnel stationed on that facility and NASA Civilian Employees, but that one just changed I believe. You need to check each site for their policy as there is no blanket policy that covers all.

Ed and Wa8, there are paragraphs, just no blank lines between them. I agree the blank lines do make the posts easier to read, but there lack is not reason to come down on the poster in my opinion.

A veteran rated by the VA as 100% Disabled or receiving 100% compensation by reason of Unemployability, is issued a Military ID and thus can use all MWR, Commissary, and Exchange facilities...

Such as myself...
