We camped at a small park last weekend that we have stayed at before and were charged $5 a day extra for each of our three dogs. This is the first time we have been asked to pay extra for them. is this common? The owner told me it was for liability insurance. $15.00 a day extra seems excessive to me.

Been camping with 2 dogs since 2000. The only place that charged us extra ($5/day per dog) was at Disney's Fort Wilderness in Fl.

It is getting more and more common and some charge much more than $5. Had a couple ask for proof that I carried enough liability insurance and some wanted to see written proof that the dog was covered by my policy.

We make it a point NOT TO STAY at parks that charge extra for pets. The ones we did stay at in the past did nothing with the extra charge. We do keep our dogs on leashes and every time we go for a walk or leave the park, our animals are with us. RV'ers that can't follow the parks rules should be asked to leave as rules stated. The extra charge does not help the the campers that's next to or within hearing range of a barking dog that the owner has left to do their thing. I BET they put that money on doggie insurance.

Keep Safe and Happy

Never been charged for the dogs. At that rate, they will want o charge for the air you breath while there.

I'd found another place to stay.

We should create a list of parks that charge extra for dogs and avoid them whenever possible.

We have regularly paid and extra $1 a day for our dog. I don't mind it if they have a place for them to run, but many don't. I carry plastic bags on the leash but some campgrounds provide bag dispensers.

Believe me, I would ostentatiously leave. I would make it clear to them that I would go elsewhere because of this policy.

Just getting back to using the MH. I was trying to plan a short trip on Rt. 6 in PA. Finding a camground that will take 3 ex-racing Greyhounds is getting to be a chore--the limit seems to be 2 dogs. I traveled down the East cost a 2 summers ago (with 5 greys) and don't remember any place putting a hold on dogs-or even charging-in fact Florence SC KOA has a nice little run for the dogs.

We bought the MH actually to make it easier to take the 5 dogs --unfortunately we've lost 2 this past year.

I'd be glad to help keep track of dog welcome (free) locations and boycott the people with limits. Some cg's in New Jersey say dogs are allowed but there is a nice kennel nearby.

All the best,
Bill

My dog is part of the family. If he's not welcome, neither am I.

We are new to the RV lifestyle, but one of the main reasons that we purchased a Class A Diesel RV was so we can take our beloved child (pet) with us. We have not taken a vacation for 15 years because we would not leave our k9 kids in a veterinarian kennel where they could catch kennel cough or other airborn communicable viruses.

Married 36 years with no 2 legged kids to leave All this Debt to, we have elected to have 4 legged kids who we love dearly. I know that we are not alone since many of us join the RV lifestyle to be with our pets/kids while vacationing, traveling or fulltiming.

We are only 4 months into our first RV (39' Diesel Class A) and have already found restrictions at some campgrounds in reference to pets. I can understand restrictions on aggressive breads due to insurance regulations, (even though many agressive breads are docile from their upbringing and training by concerned owners). We are from Florida and would love to visit Jetty Park regularly. But, even our Golden Retriever puppy of 10 months and 55 pounds is excluded due to size and weight (30 lb max weight). And to top THAT off, they are considering banning ALL pets completely. Shame on them !

From talking to others who are pet lovers, we are concerned to see a pattern developing that is excluding our 4 legged family members. There is no more love, devotion and dedication than a human to their pet, any vice versa.

I welcome a regularly updated campground listing that prohibits or restricts the inclusion of our beloved family members. Yes there are always those who spoil it for the rest of us by not picking up after their pets. Those people in my opinion, should be asked not return to the campground for the obvious reasons, or be charged higher rates based on their previous display of neglect. Of course it is easy for a campground to keep records of noncomformity to the rules of picking up after your pet.

Bottom line ... I really think that we with pets as family members will (with uniformity and collective actions) suay campground owners to not restrict pets, but rather to restrict pet owners who abuse the priviledge and hospitality of campgrounds. The few always spoil it for the majority who do care, respect and comply with the most basic of cleanliness and common sense.

Hey, just my .02 cents worth. Where my kid(s) are not welcome, my money is not welcome nor spent. Simple as that. My priorities are my family first, campgrounds a distant last. There are too many campgrounds and not enough of us willing to stick together to support our family members and this wonderful lifestyle.

Not being the least bit sarcastic ... just very realistic from a personal standpoint. My family comes first ... albeit 2 legged kids or 4.

Never trust people who do not love animals ... OR restaurants that do not serve french fries.

Ron

One thing to keep in mind is that it is not always the campground owner making the no dog, or dog limit policy ... it is the insurance carrier. Over the past few years insurance companies have put large, expensive restrictions on campground owners .... And in most cases all of this has been created because of a few dog owners not willing to reign in and pick up after their dogs. Even major national campground, such as KOA, have started setting some limits .... sad, but in most cases we have only ourselves to blame .... or at least 'the other guy' to blame it on!

The insurance carriers are not concerned with dogs in campgrounds.

Some paranoid campground owners are just afraid of possible law suit.
