Well, this is not really intended to be advice, but just what happened to my dear pet.
We took our 12 year old small Shih Tzu to Colorado in our MH and camped at about 9800 feet. The second day she lost her appetite and seemed to have labored breathing. We took her to an emergency vet clinic (waste of money) and moved back down to 6000 feet. Two days later and still not doing well, we headed back to the Gulf Coast and home vet. She died on the road before we got home. Was it high altitude stress that was too much for her? Or was it just old age? I'll never know, but just be observant when traveling with older pets.

Art D...I am sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose a part of the family - even if it is a four legged member. My thoughts are with you and the family...

Sorry for your loss. We had two Pekenese that both had health problems and died within the past year. Both were around the age of your dog. One had an enlarged heart and the other had thyroid problems. I guess dogs are like people and can become fragile with age. Ours also went with us wherever we traveled.

Thanks for the kind words. We got Haley when she was 5 weeks old and her, me, and the wife were a RVing trio. I think the hardest part of losing our pet was that she was always our baby, never seeming to grow old, at least we refused to acknowledge it.
On the lighter side, a new traveling companion will undoubtly soon join us, and Haley will be always remembered.

I recently moved from Colorado (job related)... Altitude sickness and altitude stress are very common problems for both older and weak humans or pets. High Altitude (above 8,000 feet) can be fatal.
