Yes, our chocolate point Siamese Mycroft ran away from our coach at Stagecoach RV Park in St. Augustine, FL about 6 years ago while we were at a rally. I left the sliding panel on the door opened & he got out. Dark night & dark cat = never saw him again.

We went back for nearly 2 years off & on trying to find him.

That always worries me. Thinking about having a chip put in/on him.

We have ours chipped, and yes, they can get out through that sliding panel in the screen door. On our old TT I added a piece of plex-a-glass to cover most of the opening, yet we could get a hand in to open the door. Give them half a chance and they'll get out.

Our "Old Bud" snuck out of our rig one night while I was grilling outside. We were camped off season at a campground on Chincoteague Island, VA and were the only ones there.
He was pure black, it was pitch black out in a pine forest and it wasn't until an hour or so later we realized he was missing. (He was not exactly a ball of fire). We spent about 2 hours looking for him, calling his name and driving around the CG. I was just about to give up for the night when I decided to try turning off the lights and just stand out in the dark and call him.
Almost immediately I heard a long drawn out meow and he came up to me. All the lights and driving around had spooked him.
We were always real careful after that.

Two years ago while camping at Colter Bay Campground in Grand Tetons a darling little white dog wandered into our camping site and there was no one else around. She was very friendly and obviously well loved and taken care of.
We had lost our dog of 18 years in the springtime and was our first trip without him, however we did have leashes on board. I went into the RV got the leash and started walking the dog from site to site. She had an outdated tag on so no help there.
After about 15 minutes I was walking to a site when a man came out and said very gruff"what are you doing with my dog?" At that time I explained what happened how far over we were camped and was just trying to find the dogs owner. He yelled at his wife to come out as they were totally unaware the dog had gotten out and was missing.
We have since adopted a rescue dog and she travels with us all the time. She has a chip however because we camp so many diff places I had two dog tags made for her with the following information.
Thought I would just pass this along, maybe it will help someone.
Her name, two cell phone numbers the Make of our motorhome with our Oregon License number on it and also the make and license number of our tow rig.
That way if she was lost and people were walking thru the campground they could see the tag and know what type of RV to look for with Lic Plate Number or what type of tow rig and Lic Plate also.
Instead of having to wait to find somewhere to get the chip scanned they would have instant "local" information on my dog.
We travel with two cats two, they also have chips and id tags the exact same.

Now that's a great idea with RV info and cell numbers. We could have found the owners of two little dogs a lot quicker then it took us a while back in a large RV park. As soon as I can find a place my "kids" are getting one. Thanks for the advise.

You could also put a temporary tag with your site number on it - tape or maybe one of those keychain tags that you write what the key is for.
