Hi Ted. I will be living in my RV for a while with a bunch of cats and would love to know how to make something like this. It is hard to tell from the photos being so close up as to where in the RV these areas are, but it looks awesome.

Hi Ted~

I don't remember getting notified after I posted this and then lost track of this site, so I apologize for blowing you off; it was not intentional.

We haven't done anything re basement kitty space yet but am still interested.

I have been wanting to do something very much like this - thanks, and great work.

Why the need for the wire mesh door on the compartment? One has was to block the access hole from inside the coach when servicing the litter box, so the kitties cannot get out anyway.

Very nice! I've been trying to figure out a similar setup in our RV, but the compartments don't line up with the floor layout as well as your's.

Maine Coons are terrific cats! We were adopted by a stray many years ago with all of the MC attributes, except she is built to 2/3rd scale.

Here are some pictures of all three of our Japanese Bobtails (we have six cats in all) I guess I should note that it was the first trip out for the kitten on the right, closest to the window. You can see she's really upset!:

and the Kitty Kondo we used to have made and sell, the last one is how it folds down. I also took some polycarbonate sheet and cut it to fit the window openings and put kitty doors in them.

NO!! We don't have any left and no plans to start production again!

I'm surprised you didn't have a really good market for them. Most cats would be in heaven with one of these attached when parked somewhere for awhile.

It took me a long time and a lot of thought, but I built a cage like Mr D has out of a small dog cage. I used square tubing with springs to hold it in the window. When I first built it I would fold it every time I took it down, but then I tried putting in the back of our Ford Edge without breaking it down, and it is much easier to use. We just got home from a 3 month trip, and the only times it was not installed was in the rain. I can put it in windows on both sides, as there are places where the drivers side is better.

How about a few pictures? We need to build something for the Class-C now so the cats can get out a little. The setup we have for the TT wont work on the Class-C.

I'd think the door is there so the cat can enjoy fresh air and looking out while in a CG without going outside.

Love the idea of having the litterbox somewhere in the basement! I will have dogs with me and at least 1 cat and there are always some opportunistic snackers when you're not watching. Matter of fact - this would work well with some of the smaller dogs too that are litterbox trained as well - perfect during traveling, over night use or when you are away or when it is wet, cold and yucky outside... Hmmmm...

That looks like a great solution for our kitty. Our salesman told us the dealership actually put the "kitty door" in the lower kitchen cabinet with a cutout to access a litter box in the basement. I like your creative use of the space. Thanks so much for sharing.

cats

we just put the litter box water and food in the shower and no problem clean it each night and every morning. Something I never thought of until I read a thread on cats is make sure they are in their carriers before you close your slides cats have been crushed in that process more than on one occasion not a nice thought

We do much the same, at least for the litter box. I use a prop and bungee cord to keep the shower door open, though our youngest cat has grown large enough & wide enough that I probably should cut a longer prop...

We also cover the drain while the litter box is in the shower. Probably overkill, but I didn't like the thought of somebody getting rambunctious and kicking a bunch of litter into the drain.

Going off on a slight tangent, we just picked up this cat tree that we plan to use in the RV. Most pet stores have carpeted trees that are essentially one piece. The one we bought is sold/shipped disassembled, so when we are on the road with the slides in, I can break it down into a more manageable size.
