I use a black mortar pan for the litter box. Use clumpable litter, and clean it every day sometime twice. It's larger than a conventional littler box. my cat is happy with it.
Happy Motoring, drive safely!!

I have 11 cats so it's not possible to have a cat box, I use one of those big rubbermaid under the bed roller totes - and 35lbs of cat litter in it - refilled every week and scooped multiple times daily ...along with going through 25lbs of dry cat food and 42 cans of wet cat food - EACH WEEK. My motorhome has a tub, and for the moment I've got the box in the tub (easier to clean up "over the edge" spills - I've one cat that always faces the wrong way and goes outside the box! - and the 1975 motorhome has 2" thick lime green shag carpeting, so it's easier to clean spills out of the bright yellow tub, than out of the green shag).
I use TidyCat, multi-cat formular, apartment stregnth cat litter (the scoopable clumping type, not the standard clay type) and sprinkle TidyCat multi-cat oder netralizer powder sprinkled in (I also sprinkle it on the carpet before vacumming)

One of our cats walks on a leash, need to work with the older Japanese Bobtail (JBT for short). We also used to sell a Kitty Kondo but they just got too expensive to produce and tie up a bunch of $$ in inventory.
You can kind of see it here, guess I should go outside and take a better one!
It hooks on the outside of the rig with small stainless steel hooks. I also made a polycarbonate window with a cat door in it that just slides into the window frame. Keeps the babies safe and yet lets them enjoy the outside.

We travel with three cats. Our cats handle travel fine. In the trailer we have a standard litter box at the foot of our bed in which we use Arm and Hammer Multi cat litter. My wife cleans the box twice daily. Their food and water is in the shower. We carry two of our cats outside at least once a day, but they are not allowed on the ground. The third cat is too shy to go outside. If the weather is pleasant we will spend a good long time sitting outside with our cats in our lap. We had perches built in front of most of our windows so that the cats can sit comfortably and look outside. They also use the perches to sun bathe for long naps.
We tow with a four door truck. The back seat area is arranged for the cats. There we have three cat carriers and a litter box on top of these are blankets and pillows. We also have a pillow on top of the console between our two front buckets. The cats have free reign of the truck. They each have a place they prefer to ride. Two snooze on the pillow between the DW and me. The third lays on the pillows on top of the carriers and looks out the window. When they are frightened they retreat to the cat carriers.
They seem to find great security from being able to hide in the cat carriers. I would suggest that you always provide a hidey whole for your cats in case they become nervous or agitated.

We travel with Taz & Jake:
Taz goes outside but stays close to her door, any noise and she runs back in:
I removed the two lower drawers in the bedroom stack and put the litter box in there.

Almost every other campground we've been to has cats that some camper lost. Shell Mound (TN) had at least 5 that we saw that summer. There were two at Poole Knobs, two at Cedars of Lebanon SP. These are only the ones we saw. The people had to move on and so left the cats there. One employee told me they usually starve to death once winter comes and there are no campers to feed them and no dumpster to dive. I'm sure their owners never thought the cats would leave their RVs either.
One day your cat may not stay around your RV... or something will frighten him like a backfire, or firecracker, screaming child, or maybe a dog that got loose and is wandering the grounds. Your cat will make a mad dash, as cats do, and possibly never be seen again. What then? Will you be able to stay there until all avenues to get him back are exhausted? What if he gets hit by a car or RV?
Why not put a good harness on him and take him out on a leash?

We have something similar to this but much larger for our 3 cats. My husband made the frame. The cats go in and out through a bedroom window. It's also attached to the window frame so it's very sturdy. The cats love it and spend a lot of time in it.
The cage itself was bought online. We added the window screen ourselves. It only shows one leg, but there are two. He was setting up when I took the pics. The kitties couldn't wait and went right outside.
There's old carpet behind the back frame to protect the side of the TT.

I made a similar cage for Sena using 1/2" pvc pipe and vinyl coated wire. It is sized so that she enters thru the window on the entrance door side of the cabover. I made it without a door so here only exit from the cage is to go into the moho. Monkeys are escape artists. I keep it held snug against the coach using cable ties run thru 2 holes I drilled in the metal that the awning legs sit in when closed and a bungee cord to the front wheel frame.

I strongly recommend against leaving them on a tether outside. We have a dog who lives with our two cats and loves them, but would chase any cat outside if he had the chance. You never know if an unleashed dog would attack your cats.
We've been traveling with the two cats now for two weeks; first time. They're in the truck in pet carriers when we're towing, and seem to get along okay in the FW when parked. So far, so good.
Where to put the litter box? We keep ours in the shower; a slightly smaller pan than we use at home, and clean it 2-3 times daily. If you have a spare lower cabinet, you could modify the door to allow cat entrance to a pan inside. I've heard of others who have given their cats an avenue to a closed basement compartment. Depends on your RV's configuration.

Not sure about male cats but, our two females, using the standard height box, were shooting right over the edge of the pan. Simple solution---higher box from Lowes or home Depot.
By the way, it took the finish off the cabinets that got sprayed.

We use clamps at the window and 2 bungee cords. There is no way our cats can escape or other animals get in. It's right up against our RV with a carpet to protect the RV siding. Have any pics of your cage?

One of our females shot urine over the edge of the regular pans also. That's why we got rid of them and bought totes at Wally World. Now she pees down the INside of the tote and it runs down into the litter.
