The term "ankle biters" was made up for exactly the conditions you describe. Ask any delivery driver (UPS, FedEx, etc) and they will tell you small dogs cause more problems than big dogs.

I like all dogs, but prefer medium to large dogs personally. My dogs love going in the MH and camping. They adjust very easily to the switch from house to MH living.

With all this price less information, I would like to add another point of view.. Are the dogs, Dog owners, or the attorneys, The blame for the Reputation of some dogs.., Be it Big or small... I was at a friends house that had a PB. he also had a small girl. 3/4 years old. He had a rope hanging in the back yard with a large knot on the end of it, He showed me something that made me shiver . The dog would jump up and grab the knot. and when he did bite on to it his Jaw locks onto it , where he had a difficult time to let go ( unlock his jaw) You can agree or disagree. that is what I seen, I felt sorry for that little girl..

We love our dogs and cats. Except for the Golden Retriver they are all rescues. But we don't take them with us. They either stay at home with a sitter or we kennel them. I don't want animal stink in my coach (would like to keep it sellable) and I don't want to leave them locked up in the coach if we're out and about. My 80 pound Rottweiler/Heinz 57 mix is adorable to us, but he scares the crap out of other people when he barks and the hair on his back is standing straight up, and I don't care to inflict his cuteness on my fellow campers.

Of course the cats are another story. There's barely enough room in my house for thier litter box. Let alone the 300 or so square ft of my coach.

YMMV

Our daughter is a foster parent for a power breed rescue agency. She mainly fosters pit bulls. She claims they are weinies and really strive to please their owners.

IMO anyone who owns a power breed must be confident and be the alpha dog. Otherwise the animal becomes the alpha, feeds upon the insecurity of the owner and tries to protect them.

A properly raised power breed can be a good dog. It is just sad when people who are not right for them buy them because it is fashionable to own one. It feeds their ego but does nothing for the animal itself.

Yes there are breeds of dogs that get a bad rap, but what a lot of people don't think about the Dog does what it is trained to do. If I Dog is trained to be guard and protect, that is what the Dog will do, if it is trained to help people, that is what it will do. And if it is not trained it will do as it pleases. The Bad Rap should fall on the shoulders of the people not the Dog. My service Dog is a Labrador / pit Bull mix, but she has the pit Bull head and if it were not that she is a highly trained Service Dog I would be restricted from a lot of places. She is part of my family, and goes where ever I go. She wears a vest when not at home, and I have a cute pink collar on her to help make her look friendly to others . She has saved my life and is the sweetest, most caring Dog you could ever find.

I have never has any issues taking my dogs yet, I too have a service dog but she is small and only 63lbs. My mastiff is also on the small side of 180ish lbs, some did ask about my irishwolf hound when he was around but that was only because he was a hair over 220 lbs. I clean up after my dogs, they are quite unless you come knocking, then the mastiff will let you know he's there.

In the 1.5 months we've been in our trailer, our Dane is loving the full-time life. He had never worn a bark collar before, and when we tried one out, it didn't bother him in the slightest. So we spent $180 on two bark collars that just sit in the cupboard. If we're worried about barking we just close the shades and have had no complaints from the neighbors.

Clean up isn't a problem, but we have a very accommodating campground with a dog park.

Smile On the Road again , this time with Cookie

We are leaving tomorrow with our 65+ pound puppy Labrador/ American Pit Bull Terrier mix for a week to get her use to Motor Home life. I know all will go well she just wants to be with us all the time. She is a registered Service Dog and when we get back we will put on a new set of tires then hit the road for an extended adventure.

Never had any real problems traveling with our 80 lb Golden Retriever. Never been to a RV park that said no dogs. They would lose too much business. Have seen restrictions on the power breeds, but most of the time they want to meet your dog. If they like the dog they let 'em in.

Occasionally see a restaurant that we would like to go to, but my wife won't let the dog be unattended. Oh well.

Thumbs up she is good to go

because Cookie is a Service Dog we did not have a problem any where. We went to restaurants , casinos, rode the shuttles, she was welcome everywhere on our last trip..
We have a trip planned to leave in 4 days to Yellowstone park and we have reservations for tours, some of which are wild life tours, Bears, Elk, Moose, and ect. when we asked if we could take our Service Dog on the tour, they said Service Dogs are allowed.
She is now 9 1/2 months old and about 70 pounds + or -. As long as she dose not bark and growl she can go. She is well behaved and that will not be a problem.

Our dogs are a big part of the reason we go camping. We always hated leaving them home when we went away. They are very people friendly, love to visit new places and always seem to draw a crowd. Most parks are happy to have our pups, and at Boyd's some of the night guards actually get upset when they know we're leaving.

+1. Everywhere I camp I see lots of other dog owners.

I've taken a trip with my dog using motels, and wouldn't like to repeat it. Not only are the choices extremely limited (most motels that allow dogs don't allow dogs over 30 lbs or so), but worrying about the maid coming and letting my dog run free while I make a run to the store was frustrating.
