Dog going to Alaska - requirements

We are planning a trip to Alaska this summer, and of course will be taking Chewie, our mixed up Poodle/Lhasa. Have read three different requirements to take him into Canada. One is that we need a letter from a vet dated 15 days before we cross about his shots, state of health etc. The other is same thing only it should be dated within 30 days from entry into Canada. The third is that we need certificate that his shots are up to date within the last year. Has anyone crossed over into Canada with their pet lately, and know what the requirements are? What about coming back from Alaska into Canada and the US?

Three years ago we took our two dogs to Canada and the requirement then was the 30 day vet statement. customs did not even look at it though although they could have. The question we had was what about returning to the US after an extended time in Canada. Never did we resolve that question. The official Canadian and US gov. web sites regarding travel sites should have he correct and current info.

We will be doing the alaska trip in 22012 probably so will be interested in your outcome for this.

I brought a German Shepard back from Germany and had to show an international shot card indicating that he had A Rabies shot at least 15 days before we entered the US

We are leaving Santa Clarita, CA on May 1st and heading for Alaska. We have to be in Eagle River by May 21st. We have a 4.5 year old Golden Retriever which already has his legal rabies vaccination and will have his new yearly boosters done in April just before we leave.

WE have crossed the ''stripe'' several times and in several different places and have NEVER BEEN CHECKED in any way concerning our dogs. We always put them in a ''pet crate'' and we always have current rabies certification papers and their ''tags'' affixed to their collars. Sometimes they ask if we have ''Pets'' but they never ask for papers.
Free advise. When you cross the stripe have all your stuff together and I mean everything in a port folio on the dash and DO NOT LIE TO THESE PEOPLE IN ANY WAY. They can look at your hub caps and tell if you are lieing about anything....
