Our pointer/Lab mix is getting gray on muzzle and around his eyes. BenBen is only 6 and his sister dog is an 8 YO Lab with just a little gray on the muzzle. This is the earliest that I have had a dog gray out so much. Anyone else had this?

One of my goldens started graying in the muzzle at 4 years. Our vet told us she was just following in Daddy's footsteps (Daddy had gray in his beard - and still does!!).

We have a neighbor with a 6 yo black lab mix (my wife found the dog for them from a dog rescue group). The dog began to gray in the muzzle area last year. Another black lab mix in the area also got gray in the face at a fairly young age.

Our lab had this years ago. Vet told us it was a thyroid problem, common to labs. Have their thyroid checked.

update - in consultation with vet, BenBen is just graying early due to his Lab ancestor. Some Labs apparently start graying as early as 3 YO. Thyroid is not a problem and his health is perfect. He will just look old unless we use what the vet recommended - she said Grecian Formula for Men.
