I am wondering if anyone has had any state to state issues traveling with ferrets? We have 4 of the little bandits and don't want to wind up wandering into a legal quagmire with some local official treating us like they were bengal tigers.
Thanks for any info you have!

Just a personal observation; are you out of your mind. Ferrets are the stinkiest 'pet' I have ever been privy to know (my daughter). That kind of smell in a small space must make you very popular for parties at your house .
But the true travelers are they who leave for leaving’s sake
Saying continuously, without knowing why: ‘Let us go on’.
Paraphrased from Baudelaire’s ‘The Journey’

My ferret story (not RV related).....
Years ago I worked as a maintenance man at an apartment complex. One night I got a call from a resident who said there was a weasel or something in their apartment.
Now, I have heard and seen it all but a weasel in someone's apartment? Anyway, we went over there and there was this ferret cruising around the living room like he owned the place. The woman was in hysterics. We caught it and put it in a cage in the shop for the night.
Turns out it belonged to the person next door and was somehow getting through the common wall into the apartment next door. The thing could skrunch down into the smallest spaces; he was getting under the cabinets and found a hole under the dishwasher that led into the next door apartment. (Shows how well they were built) Anyway, this happened three or four times and the woman threatened to sue if we couldn't stop "the weasel" from invading her space. We ended up having to rip out cabinets to patch drywall. In end the ferret's owner moved and that was the end of that.
Boy, I don't miss those days.....

Apparently hers hadn't been de-scented. They have glands just like a skunk. Most are de-scented at birth. Then, as long as you keep the litterbox clean, they're no more odorous than a cat or dog.

They are extremely clever and determined little critters! One saying is, A ferret is God's way of telling you nothing is childproof!
It's kinda odd you mentioning the apartments... I used to be the maintenance manager for Sentinel Real Estate, and we are currently living in Chicago as well! Small world! Looking forward to going full-time and never seeing another Chicago winter!

On a side note... Are there a lot of RVer/hams? We have been thinking of testing for our license.

Well, I'm glad you understand that your legal millage may vary as you cross state lines,, I might also add, it can vary from city or county to city or county WITHIN the state..
Some states class Ferrets as "Wlid Animals" or "Exotic Pets" and prohibit the keeping of them as pets.
Alas, I know not which ones,, And some local juristicitons may also have such rules.
Wish I could help you but a check of the game laws in each state is in order.. This is a level of research I can do.. But I'd have to bill for it, and I have no wish to do that.. Try a law firm.. One with a "Staff" and make sure they understand you are only paying for the research staff, not the lawyer.

We have a Ham forum on iRV2.
HERE
Also have one called Open Roads Radio.
There quite a few hams on the road and there are several HF nets on the radio.
Check www.arrl.org and see which ham radio clubs are in your area. Also find where the exams are being given. Some clubs over study classes for the Technician exam.

I see from the arrl site that there are several hamfests in my area. I used to attend the Shelby, NC fest religiously. Geek heaven! I think I will test for my tech license this year! Thanks!
