I have never done that and probably won't as we travel with 3 dogs.
I had a friend that was a Viet Nam vet. He stayed on the Ocklawaha river in a canoe, He had a large parrot that stayed with him, rode on his shoulder and he even made a perch on the front of the canoe for the bird, the parrot was well trained and friendly to the visitors, as far as I know he never caged the bird . It should be good for the Parrot rather than be separated from his humans.

We used to travel with our Eclectus and Golden Retriever. No joke, the bird would ride on the dogs head and I wish I had a picture to post but it was 10 years or so ago. Made a stand for the outside out of PVC and guess where everyone in the campground gathered at night! Keep em clipped.......
