If something ever happened...and it will someday, would you get another?

Our Dachshund we had last lived to be 18. This guy we have now, a mini, is 11. But the DW says, this is it, we have had a Dachshund in our home for 40 years and now no more after Duke goes.

I don't know, we said that on the last Duke we had. That lasted about 2 weeks and we ended up getting another one. (Mostly for our son who is now grown up and married). But also because we just missed the other guy so much.

As we approach those fully retirement years and more frequent travel and cruises, doggy day care is always something you think about and the level of care your buddy is getting.

So that brings me to the question, If/when something happens to your pet now are you going to get another one?

Our cat died earlier this year around 18 years old. We grieved. I didn't really want another animal. At first my better half didn't want another animal either. Then after about a month we were at the animal shelter and got another cat. I didn't want another cat at first. But now he's my buddy. So yes, we got another after ours passed on.

I will likely have an animal as part of my will.

Homes need an animal of some sort.
There's always someone in need of rescue (be it you, or the animal).

We lost our blind PBGV in 2010. He traveled with us in the RV and loved it. When he died we both said no more pets as long as we have the RV. That lasted about 30 days before we found our current co-traveler. I think we will always have a dog.

We've discussed this at length.
Our Daisy Doodle (chow/weimaraner/coonhound mix) is 12 and has diabetes and our Coco nut (chocolate lab) is about to be 8 in October. Mille, the 7.5lb wonder cat, is 11.

Part of me says no more. Part of me says I'm an animal lover and would want another.
I just don't know.
I hope it's a long time before I have to think about it.

Absolutely. I have always had a dog and always will. Our present Yorkie is 12 and plays like a puppy. When she is gone I will get another Yorkie.

We said no more after the emotional ordeal of losing our little guy to cancer. We made it 6 months and then Ginger rescued us. Sweetest dog we have ever had. They always fill a hole we didn't know we had.

We have 8 cats, 6 are rescues. The two oldest are registered Maine Coons and are brothers age 12, the youngest is 8 months and was trapped at just 6 weeks or so....the last of his family to be caught.....right after I said...'no more'. I'm 64, he's the youngest, the others fall between 12 and 8 months. He's probably the last kitten...but if an elder cat needs a home......who knows.

Having a spoiled pooch is some of the best times in my life. We are on #6 in 44 years. Abbey could outlive us and she will be in great hands if she does.

We've had two or three dogs and a couple of cats for the past thirty years. We are now down to two dogs.
My wife says that this is it but I would guess that we'll always have at least one dog.

If something ever happened...and it will someday, would you get another?

Our beloved Santa passed from Liver cancer at 14 in March. Over 30 years with Samoyeds, 5 years full timing. I need a break. The grieving was/is still very hard. Another? Probably but not for a while.
