Abbey has been with us since last Wed, Oct 21. She 1 1/2 years old, purebred schnauzer who was owner surrendered into rescue because she wouldn't stay home. She was in rescue only 6 weeks when we adopted her.
We have a house in the city and a trailer in a private campground in a wooded surrounding. She was there with us this past weekend. True to the schnauzer standard, she loves being around people and their dogs. She meets and greets well. She needs some leash work, we need to stop the mouthing when she gets excited, and I don't want her jumping up on everyone. All doable in good time. Today, she ate of her own accord; we celebrated the event with a long walk.

Lovely young lady. She is just a little darker than our Belle. She is a rescue also. We have had her about 5 years now. Also have a 16.5 year old male (black and silver).
Sounds like you have a talker on your hands.

She is the second schnauzer and the third terrier we've had, and her excited "woo, woo, woo" when she comes in from outdoors is a first for us. Our sweet schnauzer girl Molly at the Bridge would do a "moany-groany" but never the exhuberant woowoowoo.

She's the second schnauzer in our household; sweet schnauzer girl Molly went to the Bridge 2 years ago. Molly loved to camp with us. When we'd start packing the RV, she'd sit in the driver's seat and supervise. Last thing on was her bag and when she'd see it come on, she knew she was going. Terriers are not known for their sociability, but schnauzers are incredibly social dogs, both with people and with other dogs.

We have had schnauzers fro 39 years now. We are on #3 and #4. Our daughter is hooked on them since se grew up with a schnauzer in the house.
They can be a bit on the barky side and all of ours have been talkers...look you in the eye and make wierd sounds that are not barking.
They were bred as ratters and love to chase anything small that moves...doesn't move, it is of no interest.
Fast, ours have run down squirrels, rabbits and cats on the ground. Problem is if they get loose, the nose goes into overdrive and the ears are shut down.
She will adjust and train you well.

There is nothing like a schnauzer woo, woo, woo to let you know they mean business. Ours rewards us when we come home after leaving her for awhile, when we are getting ready to give her a treat, happy occasions for her. She also has the ability to pin her ears back and hang her head when she is being scolded for a misdeed. She is an excellent camper and traveler. She was with us every mile of the way on our 2-1/2 trip to Alaska this summer. We didn't realize how much she missed home until we started down the road to the house and she began to sing her little woo, woo song.

Very nice dog. Our mini Schnauzer just died about 4 months ago she was 12. We said no more dogs but we are getting another mini next Wendsday. We went to go look at Standard Schnauzers and we thought that it was to much dog for us.

Sorry for your loss of your mini schnauzer. Good luck with your new one and be sure to post a pic.

Never had a dog that "woo-wooed" before and we're loving it. She has been with us exactly 4 weeks today, and is settling in nicely. This morning's challenge is shoes. She loves to suck on my soft slippers, and willing gave them up when I told her they were "mine." Next thing I see is her making off with one of the old, ratty tennis shoes I wear outside in bad weather. She gave it up too and is currently being a POP, what we call a P*ssed Off Puppy, and sulking. I love having a pup in the house again after being 2 years without one.

Diane, what a treasure you have found in Abbey. They are such sweet dogs, so go slow with her and you will bond with her in time. She has been through a lot, and it's still in her little mind.
We have had three, 1st-salt/pepper male for 12 yrs, 2nd-black female who passed with diabetis (yes just like humans have) and made it for about 9 yrs, and last was a silve male for almost 10 yrs. They all had different little traits, some good and some not too bad, but are very sensative to scolding. When camping and I see one, I never fail to ask if I can see it, they bring back so many good memories, and yes..........I still miss them all. Be proud of her.

David,
You are so right about schnauzers being sensitive to scolding. I learned that with my first schnauzer Molly who went to the Bridge 25 months ago. She was so sensitive to my voice, that I never raised it with her. Life with Molly was peaceful, calm and quiet. Of course, we rescued her when she was 8 months old, and she went to the Bridge at age 10 years.
Abbey is also very sensitive to scolding. The first thing I decided she *had* to stop was behaving like my hands were her personal chew toys. A quiet "huh-huh" is all it takes to stop that action in its tracks. Doesn't help that everyone wants to roughhouse with her. LOL She's learning to bump the back of my leg with her nose instead of trying to climb up my leg. She's very excitable and has a lot of energy. She's a sweet girl and for the most part, she's good. I just make sure I give her lots of opportunities to be successful.

Mike,
Congratulations on sharing your life with a sweet schnauzer. Looking forward to learning more about her, and of course, seeing that sweet schnauzer face with mischievous eyes!
