As I read this, the mini schnauzer spoiled kid was in my lap getting a tummy rub. There is no such thing as "just a dog" to those of us who love them. All of the fur kids are valued members of the family.

My two are tucked safely in their crates...having sweet dreams of chasing birds!

Thanks for that Bob. That reminds me of the time my Father said to me "You know I really feel sorry for my friends". I asked him why and he said to me that he had just come back from golfing and they had just dropped him off at his house. When he walked in he was greeted by his Golden Retriever like he was some kind of God. He said she ran around in circles whined, brought toys and was just so excited to see him it was like the happiest day of her life.

He said when they go home, there is no excitement or and fanfare, they just walk in the door and that's it. They might get a hi from their wives, but no one to be excited, nothing that's so glad you're home it's like a tornado hit, just plain quiet. He said "and the saddest thing is, they have no idea what they're missing."

Thanks for making me a dog lover Dad.

We have had our Benji dog for 15 years now, and we have gone from a pop-up through TT's, 5th wheel, a Class C and now a Class A, all because we could not go anywhere without taking Benji along. John H... Look into their eyes... They are not "just a dog"

Indeed, people who think they are "just a dog" just don't understand. My happiest moments are spent with my dog, who thinks I'm a neat person, and with my hubby. When hubby comes home from being out driving tractor trailer for a week, Abbey schnauzer gets his attention first, and then me. I've never felt slighted in any way.

Oh so true. When I come home from work, it is Benji who gets attention first. If my wife is out, he is also the first to get any attention when she returns. It's all OK, we understand. It is truly a "dog" thing. We also have 4 kids and 8 grand kids, but Benji is our boy. John H...

I know the feeling. JJ Had her doggie doors but she very seldom used them. Even in the 5veR I had to lift her to the bed at night. I would try to put her out in the morning and she would have none of that. So I would get home 10 hours later and she is still in bed. Know she couldn't jump up there on her own she slept all day and would go until I let her out after work. She would go nuts when I came home from work. I do beleive she thought she was my wife. She didn't like the woman I moved in. She died within a few months of her moving in.

There is no such thing as "just a dog" for those of us who love them! I adopted both of my dogs from a rescue group. In June the yard crew at my house left the gate unlatched and the dogs got out. Jaymie, the adventurous one, was 2 ft. out in the street when she was hit by a car with a kid taking the test to get his driver's license. I rushed her to the vet and sat by her side for hours every day for a month until she was well enough to come home. I then had to take her back to the vet every day for another month. They never mentioned the bill. To them it was more important to try to save my dog's life and then to try to regrow skin on her legs so she could walk again. When it was all over I had a $3,500 vet bill but I also had my loving dog back. They knew I was unemployed and we have worked out a payment plan. Jaymie is the most expensive dog I have ever owned but she is worth every penny!

Barbra, so sorry to hear about your vet bills and what happened to Jaymie. Too bad that the kid driving or his parents or the insurance co. didn't offer to pay something on the bill. John H...
