I would like to get. A travel trailer to travel with my pets and hubbie. But if the generator is in the tow vehicle.how do I keep them cool if its hot outside? Is there a way to use the generator in the travel trailer.

There are ways around every problem . For boon docking with a trailer ( note some trailers; toy hauler models; can be ordered with a generator built in ) or a carry rack, for the generator, can be added to the rear bumper of a regular trailer .

I hope the issue your are presenting is about running the air conditioner while you are boondocking and not about traveling with the pets inside the trailer and trying to run the air conditioner while moving.

While moving the pets would always be in the tow vehicle with me. Was just wondering if it was warm and boondocking and we went to eat, or somewhere without them if I could leave them in the trailer with the air.

Could you run a generator to operate the air conditioner while you are away? Yes you could.
Should you run a generator to operate the air conditioner while you are away? Probably not.
Most portable generator manufacturers warn against running an unattended generator. The possibility of a fire is probably the main reason along with carbon monoxide poisoning. In your case, running the generator outside, away from the TT, carbon monoxide should not be an issue.
Assuming you will be running a typical 13,500 btu AC, plus a couple of other things like a refrigerator, you will probably need at least a 3000 watt generator. So allow in your weight calculations at least 100 lbs + gasoline for carrying the generator on the TT or in/on your tow vehicle.

Thanks. I am thinking i should just make sure i am at a campground so i could hook to electric to be safe if i am going to leave them. I know campgrounds tell you not to do that but i am guessing if they are quiet and no one complains we would probably be ok?

Make sure you get a device which will call you, text you, or somehow notify you if the temperature gets too hot.

Breakers trip, power fails, air conditioners break down, there are a dozen ways the trailer could become an oven if things go wrong.

It's really not that big of a deal...
dogs and cats live outside all over the country, so why couldn't they in your rv ? Our dog gets hotter chasing squirrels around the backyard than he does while rv'ing

Our dog has stayed in the rv in Texas in August...
and we have run the genny unattended many times, and we've left it off with just the auto-gen start set to come on @ 90 degrees... we've just left the windows and top vents open... all ok!

but if you want a genny, you can chain it to a nearby tree and run your power cord to it to alleviate the possibility of fire...
