Some of our "camping" friends who have cats leave them alone if they are going away for just the weekend. Don't !!!
Three years ago while we were in Virginia, our cat got sick, real sick. She was OK at 6am and by 9am we were on the way to the vets. She had thrown a blood clot. Apparently from a heart condition. Cats throw clots to their rear. She could not walk and was in terrible pain. We spent the day with her at that vet while he ran tests and kept doping her up to keep her pain level down. We moved her to a 24 hour vet clinic for overnight treatment. Still in terrible pain. Finally, after tears from us and the vet, we put her to sleep. She was just a little over a year.
Had we not gone to Virginia and taken her, but went away for the weekend, she would have suffered for long, long time. Will not leave my animals again.
A year before that, our Shepard got sick --- real sick. Rushed back to Syracuse and found out he had 15 minutes left to live without surgery. Big chested dogs stomach's can roll. They die within 4 hours. We were lucky.
People wonder why we don't board our animals at our vets. No one is there overnight and very limited on week ends. That is why our animals travel with us.
Yes, they can cause damage and are a pain sometimes. But they are "family."
