So, we've RV'd for years, but have a recent addition (adopted a kitten) who will be hitting the road with us soon. I've had cats for years, but never RV'd with one. My question is regarding litter. At home, I've been a huge proponent of the scoopable cat litter, but the little one prefers the non-scoopable, and once we switched to that, I've noticed a huge improvement in smell. He's been in one bedroom, and it used to REEK, but now with the new litter, it's so much better. He's been confined until he got big enough to be introduced to Her Majesty, our 11 year old fat cat, but I think tomorrow's the day.

In any case, I'd like input on what type of litter you use in your coach!

Thanks!

we have 2 16.5 year old cats who full time with us.
we have a ''petsafe simply clean'' electric litter box with arm & hammer multi-cat clumping litter in it.
our smaller female cat is very sensitive to her litter. we tried to change brands once and it was a big mistake.
the litter box sits on the shower floor on a rug. the shower drain has a cover over it too.
i used 2 eyebolts and brazing wire to make a ''cat latch'' to keep the bathroom door open about 6'' with the slides in or out.
the cats food and water is available under the dinette all the time.
our cats hide behind the bed or couch when we are under way.

We've had Shaggy since she was 4-5 weeks old. DH found her in a pile of trash on a construction site. She is now a year old and we have been fulltiming since April. She loves it. We have a Class C, so not a lot of room, but put her box w/cover in the bedroom. We use TidyCat for multible cats in hopes of keeping the smell down. Seems to work okay.

We use clumping litter from BJ's in our 5th wheel. We travel with 4 American Shorthairs and will be living in it for 6 months this winter. Two litter boxes in the back behind the chairs and one under the dinette. The Cats travel in an UltraLite Cage in the cab of the TV (rear seat removed to make room for the cage) with food, water, and litter. Make sure you provide several scratchers for them so they'll leave the furniture alone. Happy Travels

World's Best Cat Litter. Its amazing.

We full-time with 2 cats, and we've found the WBCL to be the most odor-free of any litter we've ever tried.
It clumps INSTANTLY (usually forming balls rather than pancakes), controls urine odor 100% and we never have to change out the entire pan. Scoop once or twice a day, sprinkle on new- that's it.
This particular pan of litter has been unchanged for 3 months. We could have never done that with conventional litters.

Its a corn-based formula with just a light, grain-y fragrance. No perfumes. Its expensive, but a bag last forever. We buy it at Petco.

The cats didn't like the texture at first. We mixed it with conventional litter 50/50 and gradually increased the percentage of WBCL till they were used to it.

We started full timing three months ago. One 22 y.o. and one 17 y.o. (plus the 1 y.o. coon hound). The animals have taken to it better then I have I have to admit. When in the sticks & bricks we used a fancy litter. When that was no longer readily available we bought a jar of added that supposedly attracts the cats to the box. We started mixing more readily available litter from groceries, petco, petsmart, etc. with their "fancy" stuff. Never had to use the attraction stuff. Now they use the cheaper stuff exclusively. BUT we scoop after each and every use. If we don't the 22 y.o. stands there and screams that the box is not to her satisfaction. Then we scoop. She uses it and then screams again that someone has used the box. It is a vicious cycle but we have zero odor problems as our hound dog can attest.

I love 2 cats we have at home but have never taken them on the road. That being said- I always use unscented granular litter. I think the scoop kind is a pain and they tend to be messy. The scented stuff gags me when the cats use it..for the life of me, I don't know how they arrive at those "scents"!

Tidy Cats Scoop for Multiple Cats (even though we only have one cat). Pees go in the garbage, poos go down the toilet.

Purrscilla's sctatching post is one of those flat types that I have attached to the dinette's support leg with nylon cable ties. When she comes into the TT, the scratching post is the first place she goes.

Frank, I you mean that you're putting poos into the holding tank of your TT? If so I think you're asking for trouble. Some of the clumping litter will be mixed/covering the poos and may tend to stick to the bottom of the holding tank and not get flushed out when dumping and over time could become an issue. We use Ziploc bags to hold the deposits till be go for a walk to the dumpsters.

I haven't seen any problems since flushing the poos. I look down inside the tank after I rinse (Quickie Flush) and all I see is the black bottom of the tank. The only concern I have is the litter possibly damaging the valve and/or seal, but I haven't seen any problems with that either. It always closes completely and doesn't leak.

I don't think the small amount of litter that's adhered itself to the stool is significant enough to cause any severe problems as long as you're practicing good black tank management. I keep lots of water in the tank and we put extra water in the toilet bowl before flushing kitty's "gifts" or making our own poos. I use the Quickie Flush whenever possible as extra "insurance".

Now, flushing pees, I would never do. I've accidentally put one in the toilet at home a few times while having a senior moment. It's like trying to flush a miniature concrete block. One did stuff up the toilet and I had to get the plunger out to clear it.

We have 2 Cornish Rex cats. On the road and at home, we use Boots and Barkley Multi Cat, Scooping Cat Liter from Target. We find that the liter is finer than everything else we tried and they do not get it caught between their toes and track it everywhere as badly. I like the 20# jug in the RV. It fits nicely in the closet. I don't find it to be anymore expensive than any other store brand. We never have trouble finding a Target in Texas.

Between houses, we were renting a duplex, that had dark green carpet. The Tidy Cat or whatever we were using at that time left tracks all over the house. This is when we went in search of a smaller grain liter that would not get stuck between their toes and what they do track, is not as noticeable.

I too, would never put the liter caked "anything" in my blackwater tanks. We scoop all day, put it in a heavy duty Ziplock bag and carry it to the trash once a day.

For fear of being flamed, I am withholding any comment or opinion I may have on this subject.
