I've been making a few calls and thought maybe y’all can help me.
I am looking for RV Parks that do not have breed and weight restrictions in or the surrounding counties of the Los Angeles and Phoenix areas.
The Parks I stayed at previously when I had my 30’ Hurricane, cannot accommodate the size of my new 40’ rig.
Thanks in advance,
Pops

Thanks for the welcome. I am considering adding another rescue to my clan is why I'm asking for this infromation. Been making a lot calls. I know there are Parks out there, I just have to find them.
If anyone can help I'm sure the rescue will love for helping us out.

That's been a problem for us as well. Normally it isn't as big issue but we've had the most issues in California and a bit into Oregon. It seems that many parks will not allow Dobermans, Rottweilers, or Pit Bulls. Some places add German Shepherds to the list and in CA many parks are even prohibiting dogs over 40 lbs in weight. They claim that the insurance companies are forcing them to do this yet it surfaces more in that area (and a few in Colorado) more than iother areas. I'll also add that I don't travel in the eastern US so can't comment on that area. Websites and litrerature are non-commital so the best is to call them up and ask ahead of time. If it was me - I'd find a different insurance carrier.

Have you looked at Deserts Edge in N Phoenix? - Phoenix RV Park - Desert's Edge RV Village - Welcomes You - We stayed there Feb and Mar. of this year. They are very pet friendly. We have a toy poddle but I saw all sizes. They have a large raised grooming table and a pet bath (large, raised) to bath your dog. Dog stations around the campground for pet pickup and dog runs. Dogs are allowed in all buildings (not the pool). It is located in the Happy Valley area on the north side of Phoenix and next to the freeway to Sedona, etc.

You could also look at the dog show websites. They probably list some campgrounds in the area for the people that show.

Jerry,
As the young’ens say here’s the 411 on Desert Edge RV Village. Before I proceed, I wanted to thank you for the link.
The woman I spoke to was very nice but, (yes, here’s the big “But” again…LOL). Following breeds are not allowed at this Park.
American Staffordshire Terrier and basically most Large Terrier’s, Chow, Malamute or Mastiffs, Rots, Dobies and any Wolf Mixes.
She did direct me to a KOA about 30 miles north of Phoenix. I’ll try them tomorrow, since I just started my day and wanted to post this reply before doing so.
Lynnvt,
Thanks, I’ve joined two Yahoo Show Groups but, have yet to receive a reply from their members (including RVK-9, which I am still waiting approval for membership to this group) and one show forum.
I appreciate your posting of the idea!
Thanks again,
Lance
PS in the mean time I guess I whould start looking for some land. While the economy is down. All I would need is access for the coach, pour a pad, hook up and water. Gosh I wish it was that easy...as it sounds.

I've been following a American Staffordshire Terrier rescue who was staying at Cesar Millan’s place, but her listing has been removed.
However I am glad that at the least Cesar would have found her a great new home.
I am going to stop following these dogs until my quest is over. I think it will be better to do so.
I’m not giving up though! Just going to take some time.
Thanks again for your help, it is really appreciated!
Lance

Hey Pops,
You don't have a problem with Harlee do you? As I understand it, she's only vicious when you try to wake her up! LOL!!
I think you may have more luck with the KOAs....but even those are going to be run by their corporation and insurance companies....it's really a shame that people have really given these dogs bad names.
Of course, as the owner of the much feared Papillons, we're used to people pointing at them!!
I think you are right to consider what kind of dog you can bring with you in your adventure with Harlee. Trying to fight the system will have you spending more nights in a Walmart parking lot than you might want!
When you settle down again, then, you can see about your Bull Terror! :-)

Paps,
You just put a big smile on this guys face. The internet sure makes this a smaller world doesn’t it?
Thanks for asking about Harlee, she’s is doing fine. When we were between contracts last month. We were turned away before finding a Park in Avondale that allowed us to stay. Most parks that can accommodate my rig, as Cruzer noted. I am finding more Parks in AZ that has implemented the 40lb weight restriction rule. I came across a Park that had a 20lb max restriction.
I am bummed, but as you mentioned/advised that it maybe in our best interest and not fight the system. I’ve decided against this rescue and that this decision again, is dictated to my present life style.
Regardless of how much money I spend at Wal Mart, I don’t think they’ll allow Harlee and me to stay in their parking lot for more then a few days…LOL
I agree whole heartedly that this breed as many breeds like it are so misunderstood and have been grossly misrepresented by journalist. Which I believe has had a direct influence on how people formulated (?) their own prejudices against these breeds.
Thanks again,
Pops

Hi Pops,
Yes, you are right. I used to own and operate an Obedience Training School. It was NEVER the dog’s fault- that they were that way- it is ALWAYS the owners. They didn't understand their dog, they allowed bad behavior in the little, cute, baby puppy and then decided, when it was 100 lbs that they didn't want it to do what they allowed it's whole life. Then they throw it in the backyard to live its life alone with little to no interaction. Why do you think it attacks?? I could go on and on, but won't unfortunately, these bad owners are what leads to all this anti-dog legislation and we- responsible owners- need to continue to fight it. Yes, absolutely, it gets so old but the results-- having my fur-kids-- are worth it.
I traveled all over the country with my Alaskan Malamutes. I was never turned away from any place because of two things: I produced a certificate of completion of Obedience class, for each, AND right up front I offered a deposit (to be returned to me when I left). It always surprised the owner or manager. Some didn't need it and some said okay and I always got my money back when I left. Just my offering both made them feel as if my dogs were worth the risk and I never let them down.
You can also get a CGC (Canine Good Citizenship) certificate. AKC's Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program
This program is made to show that a dog has enough training to be in control around people and distractions- AND your dog does NOT need to be a purebred for this program. In fact I took one of my Mals into a CGC test, to see what I might need to work on with him, and he passed with flying colors.
The link is the home page for the CGC. You can find out where classes are in your area or just where to get the test. If your dog already has basic training, look at what is needed for the test. Your dog may already have those skills and you can go, pass it, and get your certificate to show to the various places you stay. You can also get a bumper sticker for CGC.
I also recommend teaching your dog one skill that will always make people feel more secure around your dog. When meeting people, it must sit at your left side. It is truly amazing how that one little thing can produce a boat load of good will toward you and your dog. It especially is helpful to those without dogs or who have only had small dogs and then they see your BIG dog.
Training is never wasted and can make your life, with your dog, much more enjoyable.
Sheila :)

Sheila,
Thanks for the advise and reply. It sounds like you have a couple of well behaved dogs.
I was approved and adopted Calvin (3 year old 50 lb Lab/Mix) form the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation based in Ojai, CA. about 5 weeks ago.
Due to his personality, Calvin wasn’t able to complete his training to qualify as a search dog. He’s a handful and am working on his problems at the moment. It will be an on going, work in progress thing for awhile.

Check out the DOG FRIENDLY Campground Guide.
Maybe you can train Calvin to be a Service Dog.
Service animals are protected by the ADA and can not be denied access and you can not be charged extra for them.
