Thanks so much, she's definitely a handful, and definitely Daddy's girl the past 12+ years.

Its so tough when they won't talk and tell you what's going on. She is a cutie for sure.
My baby went to doggie heaven last week.

Sadie softly moans when I pet her sometimes. I don't know if she is complaining or likes it.
I dread the day I have to put her down. My two Keeshonds were stolen.

Horrible: stolen babies....! Dread: yes, it is so miserable to think about it...
Sadie: you will figure it out eventually. Too bad they can't talk to us.... I over analyze my kids so much I know I get bottlenecked with ideas. See if you can mark down when she does it and see if there is anything else that is also a pre cursor to the moan.....

It's usually when she is trying to sleep or when I wake her up.

My Susie is like that, except not a moan, she gets terribly cranky. She snaps if she gets woke up by another of the kids, a noise, or anything not letting her slowly wake up....
Gosh, that's puzzling. Is she dreaming while she is asleep? I know Katie does "anticipation cry" when its time to get her up to eat or a treat. She starts kind of whining, a low whimper, and its from the anticipation of waiting for dinner, bed, treat, whatever....that might be a possibility...

Sadie is never grumpy. Stubborn at times and barks at noises I can't hear.
I had 1-1/4 acres of land and on weekends I would let them out, but they wouldn't go past the barbed wire fence close to the house. I suspect the dirt poor neighbors coaxed the female to come to them, then sold her as a Xmas present. The male was a wanderer. If there was another dog in heat within a mile, there was nothing to keep him in the pen. If I chained him up, he wound try to break the chain and keep me awake at night.

Just an update on my Katie Charlotte.
She is slowing down and sometimes able to remember how to get back into the house and in and around the house. The signs of dimensia now appear to have been that maybe she was frantic and nervous about losing her eyesight, just too high strung (like her Dad ) to slow down and listen, smell, and think. BUT it is not 100%. She is a little bit worse at night, but the past week or two we havent had to get up at night to go poddy, so its just the morning wakeup thats kind of slow. She is, I believe, finally realizing that she can still function without her eyesight. Also, there is the greatest probability she was picking up on my psychotic worrying over her in prior months and that she just couldn't calm down and figure out how to do things.
My earlier concerns about neurological/tumor/cns/stroke/sundowners/etc are still here, just not as pronounced as we move through more time. I have noticed a small propensity to walk in a big circle sometimes thinking she is going straight. Of course, it doesn't help to have Angie (the monster child) heading Katie off and trying to "herd" her every chance she gets.
Overall, I never expected 3 months ago we'd ever get this far. I did put another two week round of antibiotics (clavamox & cephalexin) And she seemed to do better since she was on those, in fact about a week into that treatment she seemed to be doing better. She has had to take more Clavamox than I can tell you over the past 4 years with her kidney stone and bladder stones (bladder stones are all gone now, kidney stone still there). Not to mention the scores of urinalysis we've run...blah blah blah...anyway, as I said, we are doing as best as can be expected.
Every day her sweet (well not always-she is terribly spoiled and has a low toned growl all her life that I always found cute and encouraged her-most people think she sounds like she's gonna attack, its just her way of letting one of the others know she is cranky) little self is here and able to enjoy her food, her home, her Dad (oh boy at 5:00 when I get home, life returns and everybody's happy--dinnertime, Dad's home for the evening, life is grand ) and her life is another blessing.
The pictures are of her on her 12th birthday. 10-26-2011, before all this started.

This also protects her from strange dogs and kids, who could come up and startle her. You will not ever want to 'stake her out' again. She needs more stability than that can give her.
I hope that some of this helps you. Dogs are able to overcome handicaps, in a lot of ways, much better than people and can lead just as rich of a life than a dog without a handicap.

Sheila, when you say an ex-pen, are you talking about the folding outdoor fence type of pen? Do you have a link? I could really use that too. Thanks!
