new to rv...ing...can you travel state to state with a rabies exemption
Good morning....
We are going to start our great adventure to rv across the US
this summer....we have 2 small dogs and one has had many
health problems that we've managed well. I Asked my local vet
if it's possible to get an exemption for the Rabies vaccination given
the dog has has had seizures in the past and has cushing disease
with medications. They indicated that yes....given evidence of
the health problems that an exemption is possible...I live in Florida.
However, I'm wondering if anyone know if traveling from state to state
and staying at a park or rv resort...if having an exemption was
acceptable or places still wanted a vaccination certificate.
Would appreciate any feedback. :Thanx

I think that your just going to call ahead for each parks requirements. Most of of the parks and resorts don't really verify our shot records, a few do. My guess is that it would not be a problem IF you have a statement from your vet on thier letterhead explains the reason for exemption.

I wouldn't bother with it going from state to state. Like Bob we have never been asked for vet papers in our 20k miles of traveling this last 3 years. If you plan on going international as in Canada then it is another issue. But staying in the contiguous 48 will be no issue.

We did a 12,000 mile trip this year and went through 18 states. We travel with 2 mini dachshunds. We were never asked for their records, only asked how many we had. Now if you plan on going through Canada, that's a different story!

Exemption or not if your dog is involved in a bite incident and you don't have a certificate and a report is filed you will more than likely have to quarantine your dog for 10 days.

We carried our 'Dog Passport" file w/all paperwork into and out of Canada several times. No one ever asked about the dog. A Canadian border agent DID ask about dog food once.

I just travel with my cat and I keep her vaccinations up-to-date. I also keep her vaccination records in the RV just in case we're asked.

7 yrs FTng with large dog.
We carried ALL her records......shots/vaccines/meds etc
Not once were we asked for ANY info other then ....Pet/Yes----What Kind/Dog--Border Collie
Some places have breed restrictions
Some places have weight/size restrictions
Most places require up to date vaccines/shots BUT never actually ask to see them
Exemption........
Just have an 'official' document from/signed by current vet ---just in case you get asked
Otherwise.......answer questions asked by CGs

Thanks to everyone for their feedback!!
Gee....I have never joined a forum...i'v been old school...no Facebook,
less technology.... but I feel like Im in a great
community of helpful, caring people. Thank you all for the feedback
on traveling with a dog. It was great to hear that it is not a big issue
overall regarding vaccinations. We are so over regulated in the US
as it is. We are getting our RV in June...can't wait to get on the road
and have more time to be part of the RV community.
Thank you....Coach House 450 Ford

If one of the tags is a rabies cert you should be good. I err to cautious side and carry list of current vaccines from vet. They will normally just print out a copy for you.
