Our Norwegian elkhound, Sophie, loves camping and, after several years vacationing in a travel trailer, is excited about fulltiming in our 5er. The best attribute is that they have no "doggy odor," unlike many dogs, mostly retrievers. Also, while they're not afraid of water, they're don't hop into the closest water hole and spend most of the time soaking wet. The breed has been raised in Norway for thousands of years to hunt moose, which is "elg" in Norse, so it's "elg-hound." The males run upwards of 50 pounds but the females weigh between 35-40. She's content to spend the entire day tied to the picnic table watching the world go by, loves people and is great with children, although when she opens her mouth it looks like the jaws of death, because her teeth are designed to grab and hold onto moose anatomy. They are quite broad-shouldered and strong and look like a husky... curled tail and big ears... with German shepherd black/beige/brown coloring. Canine experts say elkhounds are one of the most intelligent breeds and are highly personable. She does shed some and needs occasional brushing plus, when she does bark, it's fairly loud. What's funny is she barks hardly at all when we're camping. Go figure. And good luck finding your next boon companion.

We Have a Irish Wolf Hound mix. Sound about the same temperament. But Kiera is like having another adult in the trailer. The females hit 130lb the males hit 160lb. We call her a Toy Wolf Hound because she is only around 100lb. We need bigger trailer.
