As some of you know we took our old lady, Dax in for an ultrasound yesterday. She wasn't eating well and was panting quite a bit.
We received the sad news that she has cancer. Looks like it started in her spleen and has metastasized to her liver. Amazing how stoic she has been as she just started to be picky about food and that was our first indication she had an issue. She is 11 years old and 2 months which is VERY old for a giant breed dog.
We will continue to spoil her rotten and keep her as comfortable as we can. She will let us know when it is time for her to leave

Thank you all for being such great friends and for your support.

Blessings,

She looks like a grand lady. So sad to hear the bad news. Been through something similar with our cat. They do let you know.

You also brought me back to reality with the C word. My sister's husband (37 yrs old) is a 2 year survivor of brain cancer.

Glad to hear your brother in law is doing so well. A good friend of mine just found out her grandson who is 25 years old was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer which is inoperable and does NOT respond to chemo or radiation. He has from 4-18 months

How painful at such young ages. The reason you have to live each day to the fullest! Maybe we should retire soon..................

Heavy sigh....
Karen,
Jo and I are sad to hear the bad news. We're with you in spirit. Dax will live on greatly in your memories as our past dogfriends live on in ours.
We know this is a hard one. We'll be thinking of you and Jeff.
sincerely,
Tom and Jo

I'm sorry I hadn't seen this post earlier. So sorry to hear about Dax, but what a great life you have given her. Keep us informed, as pet lovers you know we're here for you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thanks SO much to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Jeffrey and I appreciate them so very much!!
Dax is hanging in--still eating her barbequed chicken, yogurt, steak, bones, whatever her heart desires!! Tonight she had hamburger cooked in some olive oil, sweet potatoes, squash topped with cottage cheese

We know she will let us know when it is time for her to leave. Surf will have a really hard time as he is so in love with her. He is very aware of what is happening as he is following her EVERYWHERE!

Thanks again for all the good thoughts and positive energy coming her way! You guys are the BEST.

Blessings,
Karen & Jeffrey

I am so sorry to hear about Dax, it sounds like you will spoil her rotten and make her last days the best!

We lost our German Short Haired Pointer in July '06 to the very same and he was the catalyst to getting us on the road. His symptoms were slightly different as he never went off his food and was always full of beans. He left like he lived, always in a hurry to get somewhere. We miss him dearly and he travels with us along with our sweet Dally who passed only last August.

Dax looks very sweet, our thoughts are with you and Dax.

Kyle
