A new boat pulled in next to me recently and I noticed a cage and a parrot up on the fly bridge. I inquired how hot it gets up there thinking about the safety of the parrot...The guy laughed and told me it was stuffed. I went back inside and had another drink. ..was really hot and humid. Lol

10+ years ago we met a couple boondocking at Slab City who were traveling and fulltiming in a '85 converted MCI bus.
They had a cat a dog and 2 cockatlels living with them.
The are now set up permanently in a RV park in Salton City, CA.
The dog is gone, the cat is gone, but the cockatiels are still with them.

We've seen various breeds of birds in RVs. One parrot that we met had his own buggy that he rode in on walks with his doggy brother. His humans explained that he was a rescued bird and was still a little nervous about everything but did seem to enjoy camping.
One coach we walked past had several birds in cages and they were pretty vocal. We were glad we weren't camped near them, so much like yapping dogs, screeching parrots or other birds may make for grumpy neighbors.

Old thread but had to chime in.
We travel with a B&G Macaw. We have a bunkhouse and his cage in the fiver is about the same size as the one at the house.
We experimented diligently before we would leave him alone and go away for a couple of hours.
We would go for 15 minutes and then check with our neighbors or go out and just sit quietly outside to see what "MAC" would do. Then we would extend the time and evaluate the same way.
I'd put MAC up against any pet for "pet courtesy". In 3 years we have never had an incident and still continue to touch base with neighbors at every venue.
We've been parked too many times next to the yipping "dog?" and do not want to be one of those neighbors.

Mac can break a Brazil Nut without effort. A bird that size could do serious damage, But MAC, no, he is a mammas boy, not aggressive unless provoked!!

Certain macaws are a bit more aggressive than others so buyer beware. B&G's are normally very friendly (at least that's been my experience), but a more aggressive macaw breed, like a scarlet, well, I'd be more cautious. Just saying as I've had my "Mac" for over 20 years and he'll still do a pinch if you hold him the wrong way or do something he's not wanting at that moment. Plus he doesn't like strangers trying to touch him.
I'll also add that when we're "playing", I can pretty much do whatever in terms of holding, flipping, squeezing, etc. with him
Bottom line - macaws are beautiful and great to have as companions but the "wild" in them isn't going away as they are as old as dinosaurs…
