You were all so helpful with the "flaky dust" problem I wondered if someone could help me with my step situation?
My thirteen year old Pug cannot negotiate the steps on my fifth wheel. I've nearly fallen carrying him up and down those steps a few times and I need to find a solution to the problem.

I had built steps out of lightweight lava blocks for my travel trailer in Florida, but I can't find those blocks here in Washington. I've seen wooden step and deck units on other RVs and I wonder how I can get something similar for my unit? The RV places I've called want hundreds of dollars for metal steps and that is not what I am looking for...does anyone know who I can contact that might know what I'm talking about? I need to fold up my steps and put steps twelve inches wide by about three feet long, no rails in their place. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try a hot tub place or you can build a set out of composite decking material.

Have you thought about a light weight ramp for him. A 12" wide piece of 3/8" plywood covered with carpet. Lay it flat when he's going in or out and then lift it over on it's side when you're using the steps. You could even attach it to the far side of the steps with a support underneath and you both go up and down together, you on the steps and him on the ramp.

You say you carry him, so you could also put him on the ramp and lift the ramp up and let him walk in. Do the same on the way out. Lift the ramp and let him walk out, slowly lowering it. Obviously, he would have to agree to this. :-)
