What do you all do with your dogs when they can't stay in the motorbike and aren't allowed in places you are visiting, ie trails, museums, etc?

I guess from your name you have a Havanese. I do too. Aren't they just the best little dogs?

Anyway, we try not to be gone more than 3-4 hours, unless its really hot out than only for 2 hours maybe. We leave the ac on..but also will leave a fantastic fan running to circulate the air.
If it is not summer and not hot out, I will leave the bedroom windows open a bit, and a few others and put the fan on to draw the air thru the motor home and keep it cool.
I also have a sign that goes on the door "in case of emergency" with my cell # on it. In case there is a problem hopefully someone would get in touch with us.
I think most of the time he is quiet, however one day my husband and I went golfing and when we came home the guy next to us said there was intermittent barking and howling going on. He wasn't complaining just said he felt bad for him. But the guy was emptying out his bays the whole day.

If we are going to leave him for awhile we take him out for a good walk first to tire him out a bit.
Some say leave the tv on to block out any outside noise. Don't know if that would help in your case. Some say also to leave shades pulled down so they can't see out. I guess its something you'll have to try and see what works best.
We try and go to most places that will let dogs go. Before we go on a trip we look under Dogfriendly.com on the computer and it will let you know about parks, restaurants , beaches in the area you will be. I found that to be very helpful.
Anyway, good luck and have fun!

If the dog tends to get too active or upset when left alone, a small dose of antihistimine has worked well for our cock-a-poo. We needed it when we stayed overnight in Atlanta - all the city noise bothered him.

That's the main reason I got the travel trailer. Dogs can stay there with tv and ac on and I can tour the area. I do check out facilitys in advance. I'm far more likely to visit a restaurant with a dog friendly outdoor eating area or go to a dog friendly beach or park so they can go with me. I'm going to a KOA next weekend which has tours to NYC. They also have a dog park and dog walking service at the campground so you can be away all day if you want. Have never had barking complaints (Poodles are as a rule very quiet dogs) but always tire them out with a good run before I leave for any length of time. You can always ask at the front desk, many can point you to a fellow camper who can walk your dog if needed. I've done it for my fellow campers and don't mind at all.

Hi,
First, apologize for motorbike instead of motorhome. My Ipad changed it without me noticing.
We're new to RVing and have only used private parks so far. Most near attractions seem to have rules against leaving pets unattended. I guess I have to look for others. The other thing is our two Havanese bark when people or dogs walk past the coach when we're there. Can't seem to break them of that. I'm afraid we'd get complaints if we leave them. I guess we can try it for a few minutes a few times and lengthen the time. At home they are rarely left alone as we only got them after retirement. But thanks for the info. I now have ideas of what to try.

Our Cairn is crate trained. He actually settles down when he's in his crate and goes to sleep, where if let loose -- aside from probably chewing all our wood interior to splinters -- he'd keep himself spun up.

So yeah, we leave him in his crate with a/c on as needed, and so far, it has worked well.

Suggestion -- tire them out, make it as dark as possible so they will sleep, leave a radio or TV on to muffle noise from outside. Crates are a good idea.

We had good results with one of our Labradors (no longer with us) who was a very loud barker. None of the accepted "reward" training methods worked worth squat. We'd had very good results on our property when we got "Invisible Fence", which uses a static electric shock. We had property that abutted a native growth easment and couldn't fence it.

We decided to try a static shock bark collar. Fixed the problem in less than a week and we don't need to use the collar any more.

We're keeping it in case of furture problems (or maybe another barker!). Sure, they seem a bit mean, but they fix the problem. Doctors Foster & Smith on line, $40.

When leaving our dogs in the MH, besides leaving the AC on, we have a ShurFlo Comfort Air fan (similar to a Fantastic Fan) that is thermostatically controlled. If the shore power ( and the AC) goes out for some reason, we know the 12 volt Comfort Air will automatically open the vent and start the exhaust fan when the temp hits 75 degrees inside.

I have seen people post that they feel they have a right to leave their dogs because "they want to go to the beach and dogs aren't allowed and yes we know our dog barks but what are we supposed to do". Well, as a responsible dog owner just forgo those types of things. If they can't do that and simply have to do what THEY want to do then maybe a dog wasn't a good idea.
