Safe towing vehicles

Hi Everyone,
I have a 2615 lb hard-sided travel trailer. I need to purchase a new vehicle and I want to make sure it'll be safe for towing the trailer.

Are mid-sized SUVs rated to tow 5000lbs safe (eg a Sorento/Santa Fe/Highlander AWD V6 AWD)?

It seems like it should be fine but I've had friends cautioning me that these SUVs may not be able to stop safely with the trailer behind it.

Thanks in advance!

Here's a recent thread that may help you:

I found the comments about "body-on-frame" vs. "unibody" construction interesting, which may rule out some midsize SUVs. Personally, my TT tow vehicle was a 2004 Nissan Titan crew cab, which served me well for many years.
