OK, so I read through the rules and regulations of campgrounds and I see that that most state that dogs can not be left unattended.

So how many of you leave your dogs unattended (inside) while you go out? And for how long?

I ask because traveling with a motorhome will be new for us this year, in the past we have left the dogs at home with a relative who would stay with them.

Being that our dogs are older (13,11 & 8) they really do not have much on their "to do" lists. Usually a two mile walk in the morning followed with some food and they are done for the day.

So I would like to hear back form you and see what you do with your dogs when traveling / camping.

We left our Basenji unattended, but we never had to worry about him barking. Our new puppy is left in her crate when we're gone and she does not bark (we've left a recorder on when we're gone and haven't heard a peep out of her.

If your dogs don't bark, leaving them in your rig when you're gone won't be a problem. You'll have problems, however, if they bark up a storm while you're gone...somebody is sure to complain, and then you may be asked to leave the park.

I don't know what RV parks expect us to do with our dogs when we're gone. If it's the middle of summer and we go to the store to go grocery shopping, or go out to eat, leaving them in a hot car is not a solution. If you go hiking, there are lots of trails where dogs aren't allowed...again, leaving them in a hot car isn't a solution.

We leave Chance in the motorhome but close the drapes so that there is nothing for him to see. We have never had a complaint and almost always find him sleeping when we return.

We full time with three dogs... 14, 13 and 4. We've worked with them and are convinced that they don't bark when we're gone. We also check in with neighbors from time to time just to make sure. We have left them in the coach for up to 8 hours at a time... although we like that time to be much less and it usually is.

I think most CGs have the rule that they not be left unattended so they have an "out" if barking dogs are a problem. If our dogs don't bark... nobody knows nor cares that we broke the rule. If our dogs bark they shouldn't be left alone and IMHO it's our problem to deal with and not that of the CG. Neighbors shouldn't be exposed to constant barking by dogs left alone. And, don't even get me started on those dogs who bark constantly even though their owners are nearby and doing nothing to stop it

Sounds like I'm good then. No they do not bark and I was planning on closing blinds when we are gone and of course adjust the climate control.

I did p-touch labels that say "In case Of Emergency Call" and placed them on the main entrance door along with the driver door with our cell phone numbers.

Think that is a good or bad idea? I was thinking that I could get a prank call?

Thanks for your responses. George, Shadow and Gracie thank you..

It's a toss up. We have a little sign that says there are dogs inside and please rescue them in an emergency and it also has our phone numbers. I don't worry about crank calls but it does advertise that we're not home.

I used a standard Commercially available "Beware of Dog" sign with both of our cell phone numbers on it. I left it up all the time when we had pets. It was on the door, so if someone opened the door they knew to watch out for a furry streak (only two times my critters moved fast... getting out the door, when they wanted to and at the sight of people food). My pets tended to be couch taters (with the Borzoi/Husky being the biggest one). I would ask neighbours if they ever heard anything. Most never realized we camped with critters.

Same here. Leave a note with cell numbers. I bought the RV so I can travel with the dogs. I don't think I would do it with just the wife. She won't even drive.

Just watch if they are small they can't climb on something and fall thru a crack like the back of the couch.

if we stop and go in somewhere i leave the genny on and an a/c if its warm out.

only once has my rottie turned on the turn signals while we were away

Same as the others. We leave doggie inside with air temp controlled to turn on if it gets too hot or cold. We're rarely gone for more than 4 hours.

We have a Golden (6 yo and Sheltie 5 yo) that we don't hesitate to leave in the MH. We would leave them unattended for as much as 12 hours if we had to, but never have left them for more than eight hours.

Guilty as charged! our Golden Retriever would rather be in the RV then anywhere. She has never been a barker. I have never done it, but I know of some people who have permanent letters on the side of their coach with emergency phone numbers. It is probably a good idea. When I am gone during the day, I usually leave my driver's side door unlocked on my motorhome. If there is a fire, I would like to know someone has a chance to save my best friend. I am not as worried about being burglarized. I have never had a problem, again, knock on wood. It is just a priority to me.

We have always had a dog when we go on the road. We have the tag with phone # and get dog out. We worry about fire, RV's go so fast I don't think anyone could help the pets. We though about the temp. sending unit for the hot summers but havn't picked one up yet.
