So question on border xing

Next summer we are taking an epic 8-9k mile journey. We are, my wife and I plus 2 teenage children visiting from the UK and my Mother-in-law, plus of course the all important labrador. So my question is about our route we ill be travelling from NH to IL via Niagara and Canada. I have read a bunch of stuff about dog food. I am a little confused about crossing into CA and then back into US a couple of days later. Also am I right in believing that we only need up to date vaccination records for the dog and border crossing?
All help, comments greatfully accepted.
Thanks in advance

We cross back and forth with our dogs all the time. We have never had a problem in either direction with their food if it is in the original packaging. We always have a certificate from our vet showing their shots and that they are in good health - but never have been asked for it.

You could be asked what food you are feeding. some people have weird diets for their animals-some believe in all raw meat- that would not be allowed across the border.

You can't take guns into Canada either.
