Unexpected Rainbow Bridge

I will be full time thing soon. My dogs are currently healthy, but what if I wake up one day and one is dead. What do you do with their body? I physically can't dig a hole to bury unless someone offers to help me along the way. Then where to bury? Along highway or find some open area?

I have always had my furry kids cremated when the rainbow bridge calls. I put the urn in a cabinet in my RV. That way they're always with me. Most veterinarians have access to crematoriums. The cost is pretty cheap. The piece of mind is priceless. Plus, when the going gets tough, I have somebody to talk to.

+1 on cremation. we're just going through this with our almost 14 year-old Labrador. He stopped eating two weeks ago and had lost 8 pounds. We took him to our regular vet and he said the the dog had a tumor in his spleen. It was only about 6 weeks until he turned 14 and he'd started getting fragile, so we decided to have him euthanized, then cremated.

We' already have urns containing the remains of three earlier Labs and a cat. When we get Bailey's urn, we'll probably have a ceremonial dispersal of all four of them out at sea.

We showed dogs for 20 years, and have many cremation urns that travel with us. We have elderly dogs that travel full time with us now, and when their time comes, we will take them to a nearby veterinarian and have the cremains shipped to us where we happen to stop next.

Unexpected Rainbow Bridge

We had that happen while at a dog show in another state. Our boy was elderly but we always brought him. We had him cremated. The Vet who managed it had him back with us in a couple of days.
It's in our wills to add their ashes to our own when that day comes. Then we will all be spread at a special spot.

My thanks for all your input. We just started camping with our girls and never even contemplated this. Although they are only 2 and 4 right now, still one never knows. Again thank you and sorry for your losses.

I just went through this with our 14 and 1/2 year old lab. We had her cremated. Almost any vet can make the arrangements. She still travels with us.

Such a hard thing to think about and I'm so sorry for everyone's heartache and loss.
When that inevitable day comes, we will have our labradors cremated as well.

We are not full time so I'd like to spread their ashes here at home. Daisy's up on the hill in front of the house where she can forever watch over her home and Coco's likely in the lake that she loves so much and can swim forever.

Following up my earlier post - we decided after Bailey left us it was no more dogs. Yesterday we took over an 8-yr,-old female yellow Lab from a family who were her original caregivers from a puppy. Their two sons had moved away and Dad is a disabled Veteran, so the Mom, a full-time teacher, got stuck with all the dog exercising.

First walk this morning -she pulls like a freight locomotive! Some serious retraining in the near future!

Contact a local vet for options. Please don't get out a shovel (unless your days away from civilization).
