Hi All,
We are gearing up for our 4-6 month road trip across country. I don't want to leave behind my little Chihuahua and 5 kitties.
We will be in a 32' 5th wheeler that has the normal kitchen/sofa area as well as 2 separate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (and hallway).
Any suggestions on how to make this work?
What cat condos/trees/toys would be recommended that don't take up a lot of space, but will keep them happy?
Do you let the cats travel in the rv without being in a kennel?
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Be well.

Hi Land Yachtie,

Here is a thread from last year that might give you some answers: To crate or not while traveling...

this was also interesting: Exterior mounted cages for cats

Cats and Screen Doors

Hope some of this is helpful!

Sorry, but I have to ask, what kind of 5th wheel do you have with two bedrooms and 2 baths? Would love to see a floor plan of that! We travel with one cat,but its a 17 lb.Maine Coon, she gets travel sickness so have to give her a tranquilizer when in transit. The thought of traveling with that many animals is mind boggling! Good luck and hope you find a solution.

HI Diane,
Yes, I am sure it will be challenging, but I'm not about to leave my babies behind (smile).
We have the Forest River Wildcat model 31BH2B.
If you go to Forest River : RV, Cargo Trailers, Boats, Commercial, Housing
Click on Trailers & Fifth Wheel link on the left.
Then scroll down to Forest River section and click on Floor Plans.
Then scroll until you find model 31BH2B.
Would love to hear what you think of it.

I lover Maine Coons. Gentle Giants.
Be well,
karen aka land yachtie

Hi Karen, For what it's worth. We had a 5th wheel before our couple of Motorhomes and occationally when we would stop our CO detector would be going off until we aired it out. I know there are a lot of people that may travel with their pets in the 5th wheel and they may be sealed better. Just as a precaution, be sure your detector is working properly. We always had our dog in the truck with us. Another thing you might consider is a home security monitor with a camera in the back where you can keep an eye on them. Good luck, John H...

Thanks for the link, looks like you will have plenty of room for them inside once you get where you are going. Its amazing what they can put in that lenght! We have the side bath in our new one and I love that,no more using the potty in an area the size of a phone booth!! I'll be interested in hearing how you transport all your fur babies! I don't blame you for wanting to take them, wish I had some ideas to help you. Again good luck!
Edit to add: I don't know what your tow vehicle is,but can you transport them in that?? I would hate to have them travel in the 5th wheel,if you are in a wreck they wouldn't stand a chance! Lol No it isn't pleasant to travel with a litter box in the back seat and no where to pull over when you need to empty it,but you make allowances for taking them with you!

Karen, I have my five dogs in an 18' TT. I've got it set up so that all of us are very comfy and happy and it would never occur to me to leave them at home. Half of my enjoyment is watching them enjoying themselves
