Which is why our dogs are in the truck, either attached to their seat belt harness, or in their travel cage, before we do stuff like bring in the slides. If we were in a motorhome, we'd also make sure the dogs were secured with either their seat belt harnesses or in their travel cage before bringing in slides.

When I first started looking at motorhomes (3 years ago) I wanted to get one with slides, but than I saw the slides going in and out one day, and my first thought was: OMG what if one of the cats paniced and got their legs caught in the edge while it was moving! (I've got 11 cats in my motorhome) So I decided after that that there was no way I was ever getting an rv with slides...I'd never use them because I be too worried about my cats getting hurt in them.

Sometimes we do rush to much and like others have said we should just slow it down. Glad to see your friends dog is fine. Sometimes we all need a wake up call. Would hate to see it happen to my little girl.

Common sense will prevent most accidents, make a check list and follow it every time, account for pet, small children etc. When dealing with slide outs, make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Amen! Our three cats are also in their carriers before we move the slide in out. On another forum several people mentioned cats getting caught in slides. One was killed and now the wife will not go out in that RV.

Great heads up on closing the slides and where our pets may be. We have 2 Maltese and I'm sure one would get lost somewhere. We're picking up our coach the end of the month. Looking at all the information about pet care, I'm sure we'll have lot's to read. Thanks for all the real time stuff. John/Jackie

When we move, the cats go in carriers and remain in the fiver. The air conditioner and generator stay on while traveling and we have a wireless thermometer that shows the fiver temperature in the truck cab. The dogs ride in the truck. The slides don't get retracted until the cats are caged and the dogs are in the truck. So far, no smashed pets.

One of us always makes sure that we know where each pet is before we close the slide!
