Because of health issues, we've always had to go the "hypo-allergenic" dog route. Love the Cairn Terriers because they are bright, independent, and tough. We've lucked out so far in that he's not much of a digger.
He's currently a very red brindle, but given his parents coloring, I expect him to slow turn steel grey when he gets to be 5 or 6 years old.
Part of me wants to get him a Dandie Dinmont as a companion, but they are exceeding hard to find these days :(

Awhile ago I spent several months per year on the road with a retired racing greyhound. I've heard it said that the only way a Greyhound would ever stop a burglar was if the burglar tripped over them. That is very true. Those long legs can be a hazard.
On the other hand he was the most laid back creature I have ever encountered. He truly grasped the concept of "retired". All day in the back seat of the truck, fine. An all day hike the next day, that's fine too. Just make sure dinner is on time, save some room on the couch and he'd go with the flow. He knew how to bark too but needed a really good reason.

I'm new to camping and I have 2 dogs now. 1 is a 14 year old pound puppie (shepherd mix) aren't they all? She has been the best dog! I won't take her camping because she's more comfy at home. I recently rescued a full German Shepherd 1 year old. This is a blessing too. She went camping with me and slept in my teardrop with me. She stays right by my side and makes me feel very safe. I'm not sure about taking her and crating her outside and putting the dog cooler on her. She's a great traveler!

I had a cocker spaniel for 14 years she got cancer had to be put down but was a awesome dog and traveler and now we have a 4 year old lab that is nick named moose because she is a 110 pounder and strong as a ox. She loves to travel and is a gentle giant but can be very protective when needed. Everyone that meets her loves her one group could not believe what she sounded like when she was letting her presence known to someone doing something they shouldn't have been doing and said they would have never expected that out of such a gentle loving moose of a dog LOL !!!!!!

For traveling and no hair or dander, you cannot beat a miniature schnauzer. They are very smart and take a firm hand to control...they are a bit too smart for their own good.
We also have a standard schnauzer and she does shed just a little if she needs grooming.

We have a Hemingway Polydactyl cat which we tell everyone they must treat like a strange dog when meeting him.
ie Most cats you can start petting almost right away and they will let you do almost whatever to them, while Gascap must know you for awhile (preferably several days) before letting you even think about petting him.
We think he's part Maine Coon but since he has 7 toes on each foot he's just a polydactyl now. Got him from a shelter about 1 1/2 yrs ago, about 6 mths after our choclate siemese cat passed away. Even thou Thom is really allergic to cats we don't seem to pick any other animal from the shelter, lol.

I use to have several Cavaliers and loved the breed but after 4+ years can't go back to all the hair and health issues. I recently got my first Dandie Dinmont Terrier. She is very different than what I'm use to but I think this is going to work out well

I'll be RVing with a Boxer. Don't know how it will go as he is very territorial of his yard and house. He's fine with people he knows, but Lord forbid anyone tries to walk in the yard that he doesn't know. I'm hoping off his home turf he won't be so bad, but I'll know the week of the 18th of September when I take the MH on its shakedown. I don't mind his being so protective at home, this past Christmas, houses out by me were all being broke into (thieves after Xmas presents) and even though I rarely lock my doors, not a problem. Course I've had stuff stolen outside of the yard. Since I live out in the country the druggies will steal anything to supply thier habits. They last got me for 3 large irrigation guns out in the pasture, to the tune of 3100.00. Sure wish I'd paid attention to Cash's barking.
Cash is the second Boxer I've owned, once you can get them past 2 years old, they are great. They are the true clowns of the dog world.

Terriers all the way
we have 2 pits and a boston terrier pup.
pits are the greatest dogs ever. great with kids and people. the are protective which i dont have a problem with.
we also have our first boston terrier and she is great. she runs and plays with the pits and is the funniest dog you ever seen.
terriers aren't for everyone, they are head strong and bull headed but are the smartest dog i have ever been around and very easy to train .

We have many dog breeds in our life. The best RV dog?
Believe it or not: Retired racing Greyhounds.
They walk on a leash and don't pull. Want to take a hike? They will be game. Want to sleep on the couch all day? They are game for that to. Wahatever you want to do.
They are gentle, and loving. One of ours had a second career as a therapy dog. She would actually adjust her behavior to the person she was meeting, including standing there, with her eye closed, as a six month old baby pounded on her head. He was just trying to pet her, but was a little rough! I wish I could say I trianed this behavior, but I did not. She was a natural. She even helped a few children that were terrified of dogs. She adopted her laid back and very gentle behavior that won them over.
Don't shed much. They bark so little, that if they do you better find out why.
We downsized from Retired racing Greyhounds when we retired. We now travel with a Basset Hound and a Chihuahua.
When these guys go to the rainbow bridge, we will have a Greyhound again. No doubt.
They are arguably, one of the best companion dogs breeds on earth.

We have 2 black Labs, 1 Golden Retirever and 1 Newfoundland! They all get along fine, but prefer to stay at home wandering and playing together on the farm, (with our eldest daughter), when we travel in our RV. The 1 black Lab and 1 Golden Retriever were our rescue dogs.
