I always hated leaving our pets behind when we had to travel so yes, bought a 39’ DP almost 2 years ago. We have 2 basset hounds and a cat so we need something big plus on occasion we take a couple gkids along. It has been absolutely wonderful to travel without worrying about getting hotel rooms that are pet friendly and also all the packing and unpacking.

We take our dogs to shows also. They are more relaxed when spending the night in their own “home” rather than a motel

We didn't buy our rig for our pets, however, we do often take the RV rather than just get a hotel room simply so we can bring our dogs with us.

We are currently in the market for our first RV so we can travel with our 3 dogs. The largest is a 200 lb. Saint Bernard, so that is a large consideration in the floor plan.

We bought a 1988 Chieftain 22 about 5 years ago, fixed it all up took our 3 dogs with us to florida! Came home and parked it in front of the house, tried to sell it as we bought a 2006 28' Itasca , so after months of people trying to lowball us I parked it in the driveway slid the doghouse cover over and our stray cat lives there now he has been hanging around for 12 years and does his business outside ! It costs us $500 a year between plates and insurance but the cat likes it! Bobby

whew! thought we were the only ones!! We also chose our trailer with the dogs in mind. Lots of space for them to lay on the floor and we can walk around them! We won't have our trailer for another couple weeks, but we can't wait!

In 2007 or 2008 I decided that, after 28 years of showing dogs and staying in hotels, I was tired of it. The dogs & I never slept well in hotels and after talking to some ladies pulling small TT's (at one of the show sites) I decided to give it a whirl.

I found a 1985 18' Wilderness TT for a grand. I added an awning, an a/c and a rack for the back. I figured that I did not have a lot invested and if I hated it, I'd get my money back out of it.

I loved it and so did the dogs! It was wonderful to be able to walk from the rings to my rig, let the dogs relax in the exercise pens, make a meal and sit outside with them.

I decided to take the TT to a state park for a long weekend. We all loved it. I ended up going out more to campgrounds than dog shows.

From that first TT (boy, did I learn a LOT from her), I moved to a 32 foot Class A when my spinal condition made it impossible to set up/tear down a TT.

After 40 years I can now longer show a dog but I now have a 34' Class A and the dogs and I still camp and I use my experience to help out at dog shows and still camp out on site.

Hi and welcome!!

I have a friend who has a Saint that he does Obedience with, his wife shows Poms. They wanted a coach larger than their old class c and got a 32 foot Class C with a slide and a rear bedroom. All the dogs love it!

Their Saint has plenty of room to sprawl.

Good luck with your search!!

IMHO, no, you're not just nuts. Before we bought our RV in 2010, we felt limited to trips of 2 weeks or less. My husband had summers off from teaching college and I had a business partner who could handle things while I was gone for longer. But we didn't like leaving our cats with the pet/house sitter for that long. We missed them. And although they loved the lady who came to stay with them, I think they missed us too. So, we bought our RV. When people ask us why we decided to get an RV our response has always been, so we could take the cats on trips with us. We now take one 5-6 week trip a year with a few shorter ones thrown in. They go on every one. We're happy and so are they. Win-win.
