JP,
Don't have an answer but do have the electric fence at stick house and it's based on the dogs understanding(reinforced with a shock) that at this point I can't go farther or I get the ringing and then shock! Better not go past the ringing... It's a learned behavior based on this tree, that bush, the cat the stands a foot beyond the shock zone it happens!
I'm not sure you would get the same result with an ever moving warning/shock zone

Again, ot sure but my Husky & Lab wouldn't handle it well and they would get shocked the whole time we were camping just learning the boundary .

Let me know if it works for you
Ron

JMHO but I don't think there's a chance that a campground would accept it as complying with their requirement to have your dogs on a leash not longer than 6'. It would be like making the argument that your dog was "under voice control".

I wouldn't let my grandkids play near a large (unknown) dog when the only barrier between them was a bell and a shock.

I know of no such product as a true "Wireless" fence... The "Invisible Fence" product might well be thought of as "Wireless" however.. but it's not

The product requires a wire "loop" be burried slightly (you could lay it on the ground) and this loop sends a radio signal.. The dog wears a collar that picks up the signal and encourages the dog not to cross the wire.

But there is still a wire.. Just out of sight.

I am not sure it would be a good product for a campground.. In fact I'm fairly sure it would not be worth the trouble.

Dogs have been known to ignore the bell and shock when it was to their convenience, like "kitty," or "squirrel" food. (Actual live stuff) Maybe even a small mouth full of "little pup."

And the electric fence has no effect on stray animals....

1) It is unlikely that an RV park would allow its use since most RV parks that allow pets have rules about no dogs being outside without their owners present and they have to be on a leash.

2) Even assuming that an RV park would allow it, as Wayne said, it doesn't "always" stop the dog from crossing over the wire if the incentive on the other side is great enough!

3) And, as Ken said, it does nothing to stop stray animals from crossing over the wire to where your dog is. That would be an important consideration in areas where stray dogs roam loose and where coyotes roam.

I have a battery powered electric fence that stops bears. It is absolutely easy to set up and your dog could be free of a leash. You can buy the model used by hikers. It's humane and keeps all other animals out.

This is a backpack version:
http://www.udap.com/bearshock.htm

I made my own for the entire motorhome when we're in the boondocks to keep the bears away from the compartments etc. Watched too many vehicles broken apart by bears while the vehicles were left unattended. I got all I needed from Agway. Make sure to use the tape conductor not solid wire.

This version of fence has the posts permanently attached. The double version lets you use your foot to push into the ground.

In February we visited a very nice RV park near Huachuca City in SE Arizona. One of the RVs had an "acceptable" method for keeping the critters (dogs & small children) contained. They had used the white plastic type of lattice work and placed it under the awning area. I did not notice how they attached it or how they stored it for travel. Hardware stores such as Lowe's & Home Depot sell these in 4X8 sheets. I'm sure some RV parks would not approve this method on general principle but it seemed like a reasonable method for controlling the critters.

I used the invisible fence for my Lab. After about 6-8 years of this type of restraint she figured out that if she stood in the zone that beeped & not shocked that after 30 seconds the sytem shuts off & she culd walk thru it without being shocked. This is supposed to be a saftey built in to the devise in case the dog gets trapped in the beep zone. I also had a mixed breed dog that was rather large, not sure of the breeds, but he didn't even care if it shocked him, he would just stand there or walk right thru it. I even had the heavy duty collar.
So in a word, don't rely on an invisible fence to be the fix all for not be a responsible dog owner.

To the OP, after reading my post here I had to apolagize, I never intended to suggest that you are not a responsible pet owner. Sorry if anyone took this out of context for what I was trying to say.

We used Invisible Fence at our last Stick & Brick for several years and loved it. we had a large backyard, but about 2/3rds of it was actually a "Native Growth Easement" which we'd have lost if we'd put in a hard fence.

The trick with those things is getting the dogs properly trained by the company. The installtion supervisor spent more time training than doing the install! The total elapsed time was about 3 weeks. The dogs learn where it is, rather then getting beeped or zapped all the time (at least our two Labs did). We didn't need the collars after 4 months or so.

If you wanted to use it at different CGs, I think you'd have to install the little white flags the company uses in the initial learning period each time you set up some place new.

I honestly doubt whether management at most CGs would let you have your dogs outside with no "visible" means of control, as it might encourage others (who don't have an electronoc barrier) to let their dogs off leash. There are enough irresponsible dog owners out there without giving them additional encouragement to break the rules! I'd be interested to hear feedback from CG owners.

For me, the fact that the critters I'd like to keep out of my space wouldn't be wearing the collars, is reason not to rely on the electroninc fence.
