Would "Maya" be turned away ...
from most RV parks with breed restrictions?
Maya is a rescue dog. We've had her for about 3 years. Our vet thinks she is probably about 10 or 11 years old. She is absolutely the sweetest, most gentle dog we've ever owned. She LOVES people and is good with other dogs. Her back legs are arthritic and show signs of previous injury so she's not to spry - she really likes her naps (all day naps).
Part of the reason we got an RV is to take her with us. We just don't like leaving her at a facility or the dog sitter's house for extended periods.
After reading through some of the threads I'm wondering if we are going to have a constant issue traveling with her? We've only been to one park and nobody said anything at all about having a dog or what kind of dog or anything so we really didn't know there might be an issue.
Any thoughts?

My thought is take her wherever you go and enjoy her company. Most folks love dogs and the ones that don't can go ...... well you know.

Breed restriction are based on Insurance Underwriters actuary tables that cover bites/injuries........therefore several breeds are on the banned list.
Rotties, Dobies, Shepherds, Pit Bulls, Mastiffs ----mixes of breeds etc.
Potential to do major damage/injuries.
CGs owners do NOT make up those lists......they have to follow the requirements of the Insurance Comp in order to get/sustain their business insurance coverages.
Blame the Insurance Underwriters not the CGs
And any owner that 'turns a blind eye'---ignores the provisions in their Insurance Policies is really putting their business at risk.
Many of the dogs n the banned list are great animals.........but those breeds do have reputations.
YES it is due to bad owners but dogs are animals and do what animals do.
By your description she sounds like a great dog and most likely will not be turned away at many places
BUT she looks like a 'Pit Mix' and she is also large so you could run into a 'breed restriction' issue and/or a 'size issue'
Some places have weight restrictions (25# or 45# are two that we have found in our travels)
Our Border Collie/Lab was 78#.......so when confronted with the weight issue we went elsewhere. Simple
Best to call ahead and truthfully inquire....breed/size etc

State parks and CoUnty parks, federal campgrounds have never been a problem for us. One way to look at it is that you would be hassled even more at motels/hotels as they almost have a weight restriction and charge more for pets. Just stayed at a beautiful State Park for 4 days with my large pit boxer mix and never had a word said. I think you made the best choice!

Thanks all. We'll just have to do our due dilligence checking potential places and checking ahead when travelling. And she's right at 44 - 46 lbs ... depends on how many treats 'Dad' gave her that day ...

Certainly take her with you! You'll both enjoy the trips. Just be prepared for the parks that may have breed restrictions.

Florida State Parks use the following restriction:
"Pets that are noisy, vicious, dangerous, disturbing or intimidating to other persons or pets, or which damage park resources, are considered to be nuisances and will not be permitted to remain in the park."
Pretty reasonable except the "intimidating" is probably a "what ??". Does that mean someone that is afraid of black cats gets to decide?

Just tell everyone at the park what you wrote here and that your dog and breed is not at all like those other 'problem dogs'.
If she barks at anyone or when left alone, just say "she never usually does that"
If she bites someone, just say "that is the first time she did that".

Maya looks just like our Jeb. Boston Terrier Boxer mix! I don’t think they’re on the restricted list!

Rarely IF EVER will you have an issue using State/National/COE Parks
You run into breed restrictions/weight limits at PUBLIC CGs

I would take her along but...
You know all those things about her, I do not.
We had a large black Labrador/Shar Pei mix. He was a scary looking dog but completely harmless. Little kids walking down the street did not know this so we took extra precautions so they would not be frightened.
I had a close relative that owned a very well and professionally trained German Sheppard. He was completely harmless and great with kids. I was terrified of the dog so whenever we visited they would put the dog securely in another room so I would come in the house. I had no problem with our toddler playing with the dog it was just me.
Point is as long as your dog is secured by you at all times take her along. She deserves some fun times with her owners and us babies deserve not to be scared if we walk through the park.

Very good to know - especially since we plan to try and stay/visit at many of our state parks!
