Who's going?
Cammi (Mrs. Wicked) will be there showing Mystic Wicked (who turned 6 mos last week). Mandy Clevenger will be showing Eddie Wicked trying to get that final point to finish him.
We are getting there Thursday (Turkey Day) at about 1 p.m. Does anyone know if there are any hook-ups at Yuma or is it totally self-contained?
The forcast is for rain, so I'm hoping we have a parking spot that's on high ground.

AKBrick and I will be there with the Norwich. Only Gracie is entered. We show at 8 or 9 o'clock every morning. Ugh! I hate early morning ring times.
My guess is we'll be arriving at the showsite around 1:00 on Thursday as well. I have a slow cooker recipe for chicken and stuffing, so my plan is to slightly modify it for a turkey breast and stuffing. That way I can be cooking the turkey as we're driving down the road.
It's my understanding that electricity will be available but I don't know what amperage. And I'm not sure about water or sewer. I had contacted the show-chair about something else a few months ago and what she told me was "our Fair grounds has lots of hook ups all over". I never asked her for further details.
See ya on Thursday WW.

We arrived at the fairgrounds at this morning and at 1 pm they parked us in the outer reaches of the fairground near Lake Yuma (in the foreground of the photo). We were in one heck of a storm last night and it just started raining again.
I went to level and they just sunk into the mud. I should have invested in some of those plastic pads!
I found a 110-volt outlet nearby and ran a cord to it. Mrs. Wicked's parents are parked out in the main parking area where they have electrical spider boxes set up.
We brought six wippets (two for a breeder) and the min pins to the show. I'm hoping the weather improves. We're not in the ring tomorrow until noon, so we can kick back in the morning!!!

Well, two days down and no points to show for them... Today we had the feared German judge.
Eddie still has the single point to earn. We're hoping the next two days will be more productive. There were 40+ whippets entered and a bunch of them had qualified for the Eukanuba show and are nationally ranked. The handlers stopped off in Yuma as a quick way to pick up some easy points on the way to Long Beach.
Mrs. Wicked was in the ring both days with Mystic. He turned six months old last week and this is his first show. He seems to really enjoy showing. He earned first place in his puppy class both days. No points though.
At least the weather was nice today. It's finally drying out!

I forgot to include this photo of Cammi and Mystic in the previous post, but when I tried to edit the post I learned that with the site upgrade, the admins took away our ability to edit our own posts! We now have to ask an admin to add or edit something in our own posts...the nanny state strikes! ;-)

I took the camera to the ring this morning only to discover the memory card was back in the laptop! This, of course, would be the day that Eddie beat the top dogs to win another major and Best of Winners and complete his AKC Championship!
Mandy Clevenger handled Eddie and was really happy for us! Eddie lived with Mandy for several months while she campaigned him throughout California and Colorado. Eddie won four majors for his Championship. He's a great dog and it's going to be a sad day to retire him.
I'm going to step into the ring tomorrow for the first time ever and show him as a special, which I may do for a few more shows before he retires.
Next weekend we will be at an ASFA Lure Coursing event in Goodyear, AZ. Now that Eddie is finished in conformation I can risk taking him on the road to win another championship. I hope to win championships with him in AKC and ASFA Lure Coursing over the next couple of years.
Here's a pix of me with Eddie after we got back to the RV, changed and had some lunch.

The whippets are just beautiful, thank you so much for posting the pictures. I rarely see whippet pictures anywhere. They are just magnificent animals,( of course that is from one whippet owner to another).

Good job Randy and Cammie on Eddie's Champion winning point!!!!!!!!!!
You really had to work hard for that one with all of the big top handlers! Good luck with Eddie's new job as a Lure Courser. We hope to watch him run some day.

Yuma was four days of shows. We showed Gracie the first day and she was second in her class. The next day, she took first in her class and then went Winner's "female dog" which means she got points towards her championship. It takes 15 points to become a champion and the number of points a dog earns at each show is determined by the number of dogs competing in that breed. Among the 15 points, you have to earn two "major wins" of 3 - 5 points (5 being the max available at any show no matter how many dogs are entered). So once you get to 9 points without any majors, the dog is said to be "singled out" meaning it needs majors now to finish its championship. 1 or 2 point wins won't help. After Saturday's win, Gracie is now singled out. Now we need to find shows with a big enough entry for major wins. So we didn't show Sunday or Monday. If she had won the points, it wouldn't help her and it would take points away from another dog who could use them. Plus, if truth be told, we had early morning ring times on Sunday and Monday and I'm not a fan of early.
Our next show will be Palm Springs in early January and we're hoping for a big entry.

Finally got the photo from Yuma of Eddie. I have him entered as a special at Indio to give me some experience in the ring.
Ch Elain-Ward's Kiss and Tell "Eddie" is awarded Whippet Best of Winners and his AKC Championship at the Imperial Kennel Club Show Nov. 2008 in Yuma. (L-R) Co-owner Randy Bailey, AKC Judge Dr. Lee Anthony Reasin, handler Amanda Clevenger and co-owner Cammi Bailey.
