When in doubt, get out and check and check again and if backing a TT or 5er don't forget the front end of the TV (don't ask how I know)

It was interesting reading the comments about solo backing into parking places. I used my 5th wheel for several years for business travel, and usually traveled alone. Taking time to get out and check your progress is the best advice. Also, many times I had to park after dark. I carried a rather large contractors light that I would use to survey the site for low branches, etc. Then I would leave it plugged in and place it on the ground about a foot from where I wanted the passenger side of the trailer. It would light up the entire site, and if I couldn't see the light in the passenger side mirror, I was too close to that side. Again, getting out to check where your trailer is very important.
One night I was parking next to a large MH, and the fellow came out and told me to turn out my GD light. I thanked him for his concern and assistance, then took my time parking. He got his revenge by starting his diesel engine at 4:30 the next morning and letting it idle for nearly an hour.

One time when I had my 5er, I was trying to get it closer to the house and gently brushed it against the street light pole. Very slight damage to the 5er, but the pole is ~3° off of vertical and has some white paint on it.
I'm finding my MH is actually easier to park in the same spot. I'm getting better with the mirrors, but still stick my head out the window to make sure.
When I hook up my 20' enclosed, I can just barely see the tip of the hitch ball. I need to lower my camera just a bit.

I agree with the posts that getting out, checking around to get a feel for where you are backing. If I know my blind side is clear...I use the mirrors and go slow. I find it is easier for me to backin unassisted...I find someone trying to guide me in is distracting.

I suppose if you have someone who helps you every time, you would learn how to read their signals, but I find that everyone who attempts to help me back in has a different idea of which hand signals mean what!
I've learned to accept the offers of help, use a walk-around, my mirrors, my camera, go slowly and offer a huge "Thank you!" I'm not perfect - I have asked for help several times in more than four years of full-timing, but for the most part, the places I park aren't that difficult - and I'm getting better with age

I agree with all that has been said. Being an old truck driver I have a sence for where the blind side is, but that sence can't see low branchs. Just take your time.

Mirrors, mirrors and mirrors. But I still go the truckers way too (my late husband was the trucker) GOAL... Get Out And Look if I'm not 100% sure.
