I had to go to South Dakota over the weekend to get my driver's license and I did a little sight seeing. Went to Deadwood, drove through Sturgis and stayed in Hot Springs. HOW PRETTY! And I DO want a bike! I now understand why Sturgis is such a popular area with bikers - beautiful rolling hills . . . history . . . wow!! I gotta say - when I first headed out, I was all energized and excited about getting out on the road to ANYWHERE . . . but by mid-trip, I was melancholy, watching all the happy couples at the casinos in Deadwood and riding their motorcycles and stuff. Wandering the neat streets of Deadwood alone was just plain depressing. I guess I'm just not a loner . . . but I'm going to continue on traveling anyway!!

G/M" A great heart felt post. I did the same thing this week end and had all the same feelings. I feel your pain.
I quit riding bikes a few years back, but the yearn is still strong.

I have the bike but also have the same feelings. You can only ride so much by yourself. I still have not come to a decision about traveling alone but I will continue to contemplate it through-out the winter. Stockmarket looks so bad that my decision may already been made for me.

Ecarbone - I have discovered boondocking - dry camping - whatever - and I now know that you can live out on the road for nothing more than your food, gas and propane. So if you don't travel thousands of miles all the time, it is SUCH a cheap way to live.

Don't let the stock market hold you back. I have spent a grand total of $300 this month on "living" - $200 in gas to get here from Denver and $100 on food. I've barely used a third of my propane because the weather has been relatively nice - just a few cold nights.

If you don't get out here, you're not going to meet anyone to TRAVEL WITH!! I'm heading to Arizona, to the LoW Ranch and to Quartzite. Gonna put myself in the middle of single people.

GET UP AND GET OUT OF THERE!

The Black Hills are beautiful indeed, I can see why the Lacota feel it is a sacred place. Custer State park is wonderful, so many animals as you drive through

If your in that area, besides Rushmore and Devils Tower, you need to swing north into Montana to Custers Battlefield. There is a real nice RV park, 7th Ranch RV Park near Garryowen. I highly recommend it and it is only a few miles from the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.

G/M-- AH!!!! south dakota-sure brings back great memories. in the mid 70's the love of my life and her family moved to deadwood. i got out there in '76 and had the honor to ride a horse in the "days of '76" parade.that was some time.years later i went to yellowstone-came back to custer nat'l battlefield. 6:30am,no one around,no noise 'cept the morning critters. it felt like the indians were still sneaking up the draws.ERRIE feeling. i came on to deadwood and visited a daughter for a day.we drove thru spearfish creek canyon;still as beautiful as back then. as you did - i walked the streets and remembered those days gone by. that's what memories are for-so when we can't - we remember when we could. that sure is a great state to visit--winter then june, july & august.'course all the states are pretty.it's all in the vision we see.
enough rambling.. i enjoy reading these posts.

I just spent the morning going through an abandoned ranch out in the desert - purple glass, green glass, pottery . . . all kinds of cool stuff there . . . . and lots of eerie feelings! I love history - love rambling through ghost towns and stuff like that. I'd love to take a ghost town tour one day. In the meantime, I just try to hit all the ones around wherever I end up . . . .
