If you are sport fisherman this may be of interest to you. I am taking off on my Alaska trip in a few weeks... Not much on Salmon fishing.. I don't like to eat them and they are way too big for light spinning tackle. But I have a guide this year on the Kitimat to tell me how to fish it so I am bringing my light saltwater rig (9' 20/200) this time. Funny that I have kept my salt rig as I haven't been ocean fishing in ten or more years. We'll see.

Once i get to Ketchikan and over to Prince of Wales Island I'll do lake and stream for Cutthroat and Dolly Varden. A friend of mine tells me he caught Dolly Varden off the Docks at Wrangell right where the cruise ships tie up... they are salt/fresh and will hit almost anything. I will definitely fry or bake one of these guys. Getting up and down to the Cassiar highway on my way back, there is good fishing in the Nass River I hear. Maybe Cuts and Rainbows... salmon too possibly. Maybe Greyling in the Yukon too.

Any suggestions? (I have half a dozen medium size hot-shots an but that's about it.. besides Mepps and flies and stuff for little guys) Oh... I may take a halibut boat out of Craig if I can fourth or fifth a group. It may be too expensive though. posting this on the other forum too

If you want Halibut, take a boat out of Homer, AK . . . about $40 for half a day if I remember right - and you'll get your two 40 pounders, no problem. Great meat and great eating!! Didn't fish much for trout when I was there - focused on Salmon and Halibut. Too much good trout fishing in the lower 48.

Old post but I can't agree with your trout assessment at all. You cant fish for trout anywhere in the lower 48 and catch the size and number that you can in Alaska/British Columbia. Perhaps it is because everyone, as you say, are focusing on Salmon.
