New England Trip
I've just returned from my New England trip. This is the first real long camping trip taken since my wife died last May 2012. I traveled along with friends, they in their Jayco and me in the Gulf Stream Enduramax super C. Traveled from Birmingham, Al May 15 to Florence SP, Ga to meet up with friends. Left the next day to Skidaway Island SP, Ga. Very nice park with upgrades in the works. Arrived Savannah South KOA on the 17th - not too bad just over priced for the sites. So far, the trip started un-eventful until it was time to leave Savannah for Charleston. On I95, I saw smoke coming from the engine area, pulled over and discovered fuel being pumped all over the International engine. Wrecker called and towed to International truck facility about 10 miles down I95. Two days later and $475 short of cash, I was back on the road with a new fuel filter housing. Everything worked fine until a passing truck in Maryland pointed to my driver side rear wheel area. Pulled over to find my brake on that side was on fire. Called 911 to send a fire truck. Well, they did not show up and the fire went out on it's on. Purchased a new fire extinguisher at Lowes. Took the RV to a mechanic who could't find any problem with the brakes and there were no sign of a fire or heat related damage. Go figure. Other than water leaks around various fittings, loose screws, etc, no other major problems occured for the rest of the trip. New England was beautiful. I will again visit Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. We visited many RV parks during the six weeks visit. Take their Ads with a grain of salt. Of all the parks we visited, I recommend Skidaway Island SP, Ga, Oak Plantation Campground, Charleston, SC, Red Apple Campground in Kennebunkport, ME, Narrows Too Campground, Trenton, ME, and Lake In Woods RV Resort, Narvon, PA. All the other parks were ok for a nite or two. We spent a ton of money on tolls along the I95 route to New England. The roads were very rough on the coach and were under constant construction all along I95. It was a great trip and would do it again but avoiding some Rv parks and highways, especially I95. Arrived back in Birmingham on July 1. Next trip will be to Stugis, SD at the end of this month. Going to do some touring on my HD Heritage Softail Classic. Happy camping and RVing to everyone.
