Newbie fulltimer here
Life is too precious to waste & I'm on the downhill slope of life. I'd been house bound for a decade caring for my ill dh until he died. Cleared out & sold the house & now living FT with my dog Shea in a 35ft toy hauler fifth wheel on a couple acres. Hoping to get comfortable driving & backing up in time to start a full spring & summer of visiting family & friends I haven't seen for ages. I'm planning a multi state meandering. Shoot, I'm still trying to get my rig set up to suit my needs but hope to head out around Easter.

So sorry for your loss. Keep looking forward. Welcome to full timing. You have found a vast wealth of information here. My wife and I are new to this also. This site has taught us both so much. Keep reading and ask all the questions you have. Someone will know the answer and enjoy sharing with you.
Good luck and be careful.
John

I hope the stars soon align for you and the traveling can begin. You have a lot to see and do to make up for what you missed being house bound.
My suggestion for learning to maneuver your rig is to find a large empty parking lot and spend time putting it exactly where you want it. Use empty boxes as traffic cones.
I've been a single full timer for over 6 years and love being able to pick the weather and scenery outside my window. Enjoy!

Thank you. I figure I need to explore while I still can. Love browsing different forums & trying to learn as much as my brain will retain.

Thank you. I do better spending time outdoors, don't care much for city life.
Got my rig in Dec & was driving around a bit but was pretty nervous so earlier this month I took the RV drivers training. That really helped calm me down & I learn a great deal from the instructor. He gave lots of tricks to practice to get my backing up & parking down pat on my own. I don't dread practicing anymore thanks to Glyn Carson at RV Driving School.
I hope to be able to meander around in my rig as long as I'm able.

It should be interesting since I'm famous for ending up taking scenic tours until I find where Im supposed to be going. Have put apps on my cell phone & have set up on my truck to help navigate.

Lost my DW in Aug 2016, but still have the 18 yr old step grandson at home. Been sorting and taking stuff to the local humane soc. thrift store. Next are garage sales and an estate sale.

Mr D
Sorry for your loss. My DH died in 2015. It does get easier but the tears can still come up out of the blue. I've found holidays the worst. Cleaning out everything was the most freeing & healing for me but took me a year to do it. I packed up what I figured was the good stuff & put it in storage while the place was for sale. Never had the yard sell because of my more remote location. I think it would be hard to haggle over a memory filled item, I will be doing that probably next winter. I bought the new property 18 mo. before old one sold, ouch & items stored there while I decided my next step. Boy did I cry as I drove away from my old place, so many good memories. My adult kids immed moved on the new property & live in the house. I moved there this last Oct. Bought my rig in Dec & moved into it right away a distance from the house. I love my kids but I don't want to be too near. I am slowly going through my stored items deciding what to keep in my rig, what to sell & what I will keep stored. Some items I took pictures of before getting rid of. My kids have in-laws that live in the city so we will probably have the yard sells there. My new place is more rural.
I figure its my time to do what I want. I don't want to be the mom anymore, they need to figure things out themselves & be responsible for their own lives. I really don't want to "adult" anymore. So now I'm doing what I want & only doing a little of what I have too.
Your situation is more complicated with your GS. He's grieving too & might act out while he tries to cope. I pray for the Lord to ease your soul & to help you & your GS to heal.
