Hi All,
Hey Dirk, I am married but I still traveled single this past winter from Jan thru April. It also looks as though I will be traveling single this winter from Oct. thru May !! I retired in Nov 07, but wife says she is not ready to stop working and just wander !! However since RVers are so friendly I never felt as I was alone !!!

Al,
If it works for y'all...........great!
However, traveling with a partner definitely has its advantages, and a few disadvantages too.

I'd say it takes a STRONG relationship to be stuck in a small space like an RV for so many months, weeks, hours, days, MINUTES . . . WITH THE SAME PERSON!! Of course, if it's the RIGHT person, maybe it's not so hard . . . hopefully I'll find out one day!!

As Gaylord Maxwell said;
"It's great to be in love with your spouse, but just as importantly you need to be friends, as you are always withing shouting distance and frequently within striking distance."

Hi All,
Hey Dirk,
Trust me I would rather be traveling togeather, then alone !! However life is to short, and I am not going to just sit home and wait to see what happens!! Also I talked to more then one person this past winter that had a sad story about waiting, or about either themself or there partner working longer then they had to !!!

Hi everyone! I am the proud new owner of a 34'1996 Winnebago Vectra that I am flying down to pick up and drive home from AZ next week. I have towed a small travel trailer before but have never travelled on my own before or in a unit this size. I am very much looking forward to it.I plan to be a full timer when I retire at year end. I am glad to have found these forums and expect I will have lots of questions as I go along...I expect to be doing a lot of reading of past posts but thought I would dive in here first...

Thanks Dirk for the reply. I have a few questions already ....:
1) what proportion of 'full-timers' are female?
2) are there any female only events, whatever they are called, like a gathering of units from all over?
3) is there any central listing of events open to 'newbies' that shows where and when they will be held? I will be on the road, come retirement in January/09, and would like to meet some people while travelling.
TY.

Hi All,
Hey Jan,
Welcome to iRV2 I feel it is the best and most informative site out there on the web, not to mention loaded with lots of great folks !!
Sorry I can't help you and answer questions #1 & #2! However as far as question #3 goes. Newbies are allways welcomed at any of the Local or National iRV2 Railes. Also as I stated on this post on June 26,
"However since RVers are so friendly I never felt as I was alone !!!"
Once you are out there on the road you will find meeting folks is not a problem at all !
Hope this helps some, and enjoy this lifestyle I think it's a great one !!

1. Unknown. Compared to fulltiming couples, singles, male or female are rare.
2. There is rvingwomen.com.
3. All events or rallys are open to newbies although some require membership in the respective club. You don't mention the make of your present or future RV, but there may be an owners club and they usually hold rallys.
I'm not sure if there is a central listing of all events on the net.
The best club you can join for fulltimer support and camaraderie is ESCAPEES.
Meeting people is not a problem at a rally or a campground if you are outgoing.
A great way to meet a lot of people is to volunteer to work at a rally.
I have met more people and have more friends than ever since hitting the road.

This is a reach, because of CRS, I believe there is a large group of women RV'ers ( I believe mostly single or at least camp single that call themselves www.sistersonthefly.com.
Fly fishing is where they got their start and redecorating tear drop trailers is their specially. As I remember, they are a national group, with local chapters, and fly fishing is not a requirement. A friend of my wife belongs.
Best,
