Solo in So. Texas

Do u have any history in south Texas RV parks, have been going to Fl winters but would like to try Texas, what are the normal rates at RV parks, not top notch, just normal 'working man type', parks, what areas do u recommend ?
Thanks
Bill

I can't tell you for the RGV, but around SE Texas / SW Louisiana about 90 miles inland from the coast rates run about $325-$350 per month for mid range RV parks. The climate here is generally not too cold in the winter, though below freezing weather happens every year, though it is rare for temperatures to stay below freezing for over 24 hours (once every couple of years). In other words it may be 80 degrees at Christmas or may be 30 degrees, but will never be 10 degrees.

In the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) we are paying $1600 for 4 months. This is a premium site over looking a large lake. Free wi-fi (works great) plus metered electric. Average daytime temps of 75- 80, night time 50-55 are expected next week. So far, it has been a great experience.

FYI: The cost of living in the RGV is pretty cheap too. Also, you can cross into Mexico (Progresso) for prescription drugs and medical/dental care. Really cheap.

Heard in the news recently that the Eagle Ford Shale (oil related) is ramping back up. This will have an impact on areas south and south east of San Antonio but not sure if it ever really impacted way south Texas. Several responders have current first hand info and I do not but just thought I'd mention it because this activity pushes up costs and availability of RV sites. It is at least something to be aware of.

Why Is There Snow in Texas? Up to 7 Inches Fell in Lone Star State Overnight
2 days ago ... Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi were among the southern states blanketed with snow Thursday night. The rare snowfall across Houston, Austin and into southern Texas near the border saw a few inches, with one National Weather Service employee reporting 7 inches of snow near Corpus Christi.
