What do you do to entertain yourself when you are way out in the boonies by yourself?
I don't really smoke but if my son the cop has confiscated any I smoke a cuban outside sitting in my chair and see how long of an ash I can get before it falls off. My record is two inches but I know I can do better when the wind isn't blowing.

If its late in the evening and I'm having my cigar I'll pour 1-1/2 ounces of George Dickel Tennessee Sour mash in a glass with just one ice cube. The purpose of this exercise is to see if I can sip it slow so that the ice cube melts with the last drop of bourbon. This one is hard to do and I've never gotten it quite right. However I like to keep trying this one becasue I sleep well...

Another thing to try -- and I haven't gotten anywhere near this goal -- is to fry morning bacon without the vent fan on to see If I can beat the smoke alarm. I have absolutely NO idea why I do this one.

We are such inventive creatures when there is no tv or cell phone or people around, huh?

Let me get this straight. You're smoking a cuban and sippin' a bourbon and you're wonderin' what anybody else is doing? Far as I'm concerned you're my hero and if I was you, I wouldn't care what anybody else was doing!!

If I was doing anything that could even slightly be construed the wrong way I certainly would not admit to it here.

Sometimes I sit and think and other times I just sit.

I'm never alone - my dogs keep me constantly busy and occupied!! Traveling with 3 chihuahuas is a laugh a minute. But - if they ever get out of my lap or stop following me around waiting to get into my lap, then I am usually working on my photos. I take them, I upload them, then in my spare time I work on weeding out the not-so-great ones and enhancing others for fun. I also read a lot . . . and I watch movies. Then - there's the never ending cleaning of the white doggie hair all over my dark wood floors . . .

Like Graciesmom, I'm never alone. Gogo is ALWAYS there. She's too big to sit in my lap, but that doesn't mean she doesn't try. It's like I'm her second skin or vice versa. She is a 45 pound Border Collie, and I trip over her every time I turn around.

I do keep a large library of unread books that I dig into; I make beaded jewelry, do crewel embroidery, contemplate my navel, take photos and play with them on the computer(someday I'm going to be able to take a photo of the full moon over the desert that is crisp and clear, not furry and blurry), sit in my lawn chaise and just watch nature, ride my bike with Gogo on her leash, take naps--I don't bore myself--can't say that for some people I know.

Add me to your list of admirers. Far and away the most Zen post I have ever read on an RV board .

LOL... My first thought when I first read this was..."just how many photos can you take of your own navel??" ...but then I realized that you did not mean you took pics of your belly-button
Thanks for the smile that your post gave me!

I don't smoke and have a problem with it as my Dad died of lung cancer at the age of 48...a smoker. But it is your life.

Now if you want to set down wind and chat a spell, Ill certainly work with you on getting the Dickel to come out right with the ice cube. I solved the problem and either drink it neat of add some more Dickel until it is even.

Enjoy the good life.

I read books, work on my writing, and sometimes play video games. I have hobbies that include building electronics and tinkering with just about everything. I also have a cat for just relaxing with while thinking. Listening to the radio on the outside speakers while grilling a steak on my little joe grill with a book and a cold one is close to one of my favorites.

Ah - George Dickel - I remember that from my Marine Corps days . . . . half and half Jack Daniels and coke, and shots of George . . . . whew!! Can't believe I survived those days!! Now it's good wine . . . maybe a Cosmopolitan . . . and a Dundee Honey Ale with pizza!!! Don't get me wrong - I love having a traveling partner now, but I do miss those long afternoons of reading, writing and crafts. Life is just too busy now for hobbies other than my photography. The more places I go, the more photos I take, the busier I am with the photography!!

I like my JD and coke, reading, looking at the stars and just relaxing by the fire. Make plans for my next trek on a nearby trail or mapping out another fishing trip.
