My better half drives whenever the rig moves. She just does it from the passenger seat. After 27+ years, I've learned to just tune it out and drive my way.

My husband and I started out with slide-in truck campers and we both drove. After we divorced I got a micro-mini. Remarriage a few years later and we had a fifth wheel. I drove that and he rode his motorcycle. That marriage didn't last long and I got a Class A, then a Class C. I have a 30ft. Class C now but think I could probably drive anything.

I had friends who were traveling full time when he passed away suddenly and she could not drive their motorhome. She was stuck there until her son could fly to where she was and drive her back home. I don't ever want to be in that position.

I have no problem with DW driving the motorhome if she can handle 80,000 lbs and 75 feet of tractor trailer, without me, she can surely handle the motorhome. We run team on the truck now but she trained new drivers for a couple of years. There is absolutely no way I could do that job. Most of the women truck drivers we know are better drivers than the men with the same experience. Right now about 10% of CDL holders are women.

YOU men who are members here that are reading this need to get your wives/SO to join or you need to answer this question for them...
I drive mine! My boyfriend and my mom are both scared of it so have never driven it.
(They have both said they'd never dare drive anything that big - but it ain't really that big...it's 22' Class C, heck my 1964 Dodge 330 is 19' and my mom drove that no problem! My Volvo is 17' and my bf drives that all the time!) So far I'm the only one who will drive it, but I'm fine with that, as it's mine anyways.

So to answer your questions:
  1. How many of you females CAN drive their RVs if they need to
I can drive it if and whenever I need to.
  2. How many drive their RVs because they want to
I bought this thing because I WANTED to drive it!
My mom, my dad, and my bf all told me not to buy it, all warned me I'd never learn how to drive it, all threatened me with "Well if you can't drive it, don't come running to me an expect me to drive that thing for you!"
  3. How many will give up RVing because they have never been taught how to?
I had never been taught to drive a truck, however my dad used to be a truck driver and he's the one who taught me how to drive - I failed my road test the first time, because the guy told me I was driving like a trucker and using the mirrors to back up. He said you can't do that with a car. I was confused - you mean, you are not supposed to use mirrors when backing up? It took me a whole extra year to get my driver's license because I could not get used to backing up with-out mirrors. Than I get my MH and I am so glad for that backing up with mirrors training I had early on...I backed it up fine my first try, and than, the same day I bought the thing I drove it to my dad's inner city apartment and paralle parked it on my first try! OMG! I shocked myself, because it was my first time every behind the wheel of a rig and I was finding it easier to drive than a car! I love driving my rig.

I love our Class A, but that is why I'm in the process of selling it and getting the BT Cruiser. My wife drove our last Class C, but doesn't feel comfortable in the A.

If my wife could drive her dad's semi-tractor/trailer I see her having NO problem driving our motorhome.

My DW often drove our 27' Class C and when we got our current rig she took a lesson from RV Driving School and now is comfortable driving it. We usually drive a 5-6 hour day and she will often drive the "middle" third which gives me a nice break.

Wow! This is an old thread that's been dusted off.

Since we got the truck in my signature, Sandy not only CAN drive pulling the 5th wheel, she routinely DOES drive pulling the 5th wheel (i.e., more than I do). She enjoys it, and the more she does it, the better.

I'm a female and I drive my 34' MoHo because I need to, want to and love to! During the 2200 mile maiden voyage, I drove it during the day, at night, in a sudden snow/sleet storm and in and out of fuel stations without ever hitting anything. My brother, on the other hand, ran it into the side of a building and tore open the rear. Once we finally made it to GA, he hit it again with his pick-up truck. He is not allowed to drive it anymore. (Men drivers!)

I drove our 31' Class C alot, even towing. We have a 37' Class A now and I want to learn how to drive it. I'm hoping to get to a driving class soon or maybe get out in an empty parking lot and try it out. Not sure the interstate is a good place to start out. lol

My wife drove our Chevy Dually crew cab pulling a 32 ft fifthwheel. Our 28 ft Class A won't be a problem!

The first weekend we had our class A, we were supposed to go to Merlefest near Wilkesboro, NC for our maiden voyage. I could not make it home from the job I was at in time, so the DW was forced to drive it up there and get it parked, alone. When I got there, she had it leveled (perfectly), the slides out, the awning out, the chairs set up and was drinking a nice AB without a care in the world and a smile on her face. She said it was scary the first couple of miles, after that... no problem.

I'm happy to be the co-pilot and navigator. I can drive the moho but I'd rather just ride.

My wife, Cheryl, shares the driving with me on all trips. She loves to drive our class A and is probably more qualified than me. We've only been married a year and a half(we met late in life due to deaths of both our spouses)and after she retired from nursing she drove a school bus for health insurance. This required a lot of concentration as well as a CDL. Makes traveling a lot easier when you can trade off for a couple of hours at a time. She has also experienced a right front blowout on I 16. Handled it like a champ.

Being retired means you can put off till tomorrow what you could have done today
