The request for hot dog stew made me think of this recipe, its really good and great for potlucks!

COWBOY BAKED BEANS:

1 Lb ground chuck l med. bell pepper, chopped
3 cans pork & beans 1 sm onion, diced
l/2 c. brown sugar Dash of pepper
l/2 c ketchup Dash of garlic salt
l/2 c.BBQ sauce 2 T mustard
4 T syrup (pancake) 6 slices bacon

Brown ground beef in large skillet with bell papper and onions. Drain. Mix all other ingredients (except bacon) together in large baking dish. Add ground beef, pepper and onions to mixture. Stir well. Top with bacon strips. Cook uncovered for 30 minutes at 350.

Just wanted to drop a note and say thanks so much for the recipe!! Browned up hamburger , peppers and onion beforehand then mixed up other ingrediants together. Threw together at Boomer Rally and everyone loved them.... prepared in foil tray and didn't even have anything to clean up. Great!

Glad you enjoyed them! My niece even makes these with ground deer meat(doesn't tell it isn't ground beef)and everyone loves them! I'm now afraid to eat at her house as I don't eat deer!

My daughter-in-law makes a very similar bean dish, but uses turkey-burger instead of hamburger.

I really don't care that it's healthier for you... I care about taste and it taste great!!

Using the recipe provided above, I made the Cowboy Baked Beans for our campground neighborhood street party here in Lake Wales, Florida. The big problem was I should have made 5 gallons instead of one crock pot's worth. They were a great hit!!
