In addition to actually being a milk drinker I'm also too cheap to NOT buy the full gallon jug when it's only five cents more than the half gallon jug.

You with me here?
Now I'm looking for better milk storage bottle options...
ones where the bottle fits on the refrigerator door.

Ideally I'd find something like an old school glass bottle (that can be easily washed out) with commonly available resealing caps. I've seen something close to this... using lids she swipes off some condiment served at Cracker Barrel.

Is there a polycarbonate container available?

What do YOU use?

WalMart sells a reusable plastic jug in the housewares department in 1/2 gallon and 1 quart sizes for about $1.79. We use these for hauling drinking water and milk because they have good screw on caps, a flip open spout, and they don't leak.

I use the V8 Splash containers for OJ. They are 1/2 gallon. They fit in the 5ver refer door.

Actually the door is the worst place to keep milk due to it tends to be warmer there and the milk is more likely to spoil. Better to keep the milk as far to the back and low (cold air sinks) as possible.

Ours must be different. It's a side-by-side & there's a vent opening to the adjacent freezer section that corresponds to right where the milk sets in the door. I've put a thermometer there & that spot is the same as or a degree or 2 cooler (depending on whether or not the freezer side is cycling for frost free) than the back of the fridge on the shelf at the same height.

Lori, I have not seen one that is set up that way. I was talking about a top freezer 2 door.

I wonder if it's newer fridges which are that way. "?" My parents had a side by side & theirs wasn't vented between the compartments like mine is. Maybe something the engineers discovered when people started complaining their milk didn't last long when stored in the door shelf as designed.

The RV designer=NO. The fridge designer=there's hope.

We use these by Rubbermaid. 2QT. Got 'em at WM for less than $3 a piece.

Milk, milk, milk!

With a one year old grandson and a husband who believes he is a calf we go through the milk like it was . . . ah . . . milk!

Thanks for the great ideas shared concerning storage and thanks for the original question. Today is a shopping day so I believe I've found a solution.
