While traveling, my DH wants to sample the best occasionally

1. Where have you had the best ever restaurant steak?
2. What grocery chain has the best store brand steak?
3. Who has the best mail order steak or is that a non-starter?
4. Are there mom and pop stores that sell local meats that are the best?

I myself only eat seafood, but I do know how a great steak is prepared. The best fish will be the ones we catch.

I'll take a stab at this:

1. Probably at Morton's
2. We buy 90% of our meat at either Costco or Sam's Club - always good
3. We've never purchased this way.
4. A good one in the San Diego area is Valley Farm near La Mesa. Good quality and pricing.

Last night we decided to take in the Texas Roadhouse in ABQ, ordered a rib eye and thought it was very good for a national chain.

1. Where have you had the best ever restaurant steak?
It's a tie...Bascom's chop house, Clearwater, FL,
Gallagher's Steakhouse Las Vegas, NV, or Ruths Chris, Washington DC

2. What grocery chain has the best store brand steak?
Grocery chains do not get good beef, it all goes to restaraunts

3. Who has the best mail order steak or is that a non-starter?
Never tried one

4. Are there mom and pop stores that sell local meats that are the best?
The farmers market in Calgary AB, has the best and freshest Beef, Buffalo, and chicken I have ever bought.

Best Reindeer...

In my opinion, the best steak money can buy won't be good if over cooked regardless where its bought.

At least in the Midwest, if grocery store beef is branded "Angus" (Piggly Wiggly comes to mind) is will be excellent, somewhere between Choice and Prime.

The Angus cattlemen's association has done a super job in both branding and marketing high-quality meat.

Rib steak on the bone is the most flavorful and tender cut, IMHO.

I have to say the best steak anywhere would be from the grower or a processor. Once you have fresh home grown meat you will never be able to go back to store bought.

Hereford House in Kansas City, Mo. has 'great' steaks! Can't wait to go back. You can look them up online. They have several locations in both KS and MO.
That area of the country is known for the best beef.

I only have opinions on 1 & 2...

1) The Oar House--- Peppercorn Filet--- Rockwall, TX ....yum yum
2) Costco----hard to beat for quality and price

If this is the same one that has a restaurant at the Kansas City stock yards, then ditto. Best steak we've ever had and you can park the MH there too if you don't go during their busiest times.
