After talking to Norcold and getting nowhere, I dis-assembled the flap (the piece that moves between the two doors when you open/close it) by removing the screws that hold the two halves together so I could disconnect the flap heater wiring to disable only the flap heater. There is a plug connector inside it that I unplugged ...the wire now hangs into one of the door containers doing nothing. The purpose of the flap heater is to prevent humidity/mold on the area between the doors ...I have had no real problems since disconnecting it. I have cleaned it once since then, wiping it down with a disinfectant. I believe you could disconnect the heater at the control board on the rear of the refrigerator, but that probably would also disconnect the heater on the piece between the two freezer doors. I figured I wasn't having a problem with that one, so leave well enough alone.
